Game one of division series: Mets 3 – Dodgers 1

Jacob deGrom shuts down the Dodgers. Zero earned runs. 13 strike outs. Daniel Murphy hit a solo home run and Captain David Wright hit a 2 run single.

Wait until you see Syndergaard.

Then Harvey.

Then Matz.

  1. The Dodgers have been gripping for a few weeks now, so the Mets should take this series fairly easily. The Cubs had 97 wins and took third in their division – but the Cards may have the Cubs number. I like the Mets to the World Series primarily because pitching is key in playoff baseball, and the Mets do have pitching.

I like Texas to reach the World Series for the American League. Kansas City had the best record in the AL, but they clinched early and it’s tough to gear up after playing a string of meaningless games. Both Texas and Houston had to grind literally to the last day of the season, and Texas was considered dead and buried at the All Star break but ended up running down both the Angels and the Astros. Toronto is good, but the AL East was mediocre at best this year.

Mets over the Rangers in the World Series – again because of pitching, and because the Rangers generally seem to suck in the World Series.

  2. Jake de From went to my alma mater, Stetson University. He started as a shortstop, coach Pete Dunn (one of the winningest college coaches ever) converted him to pitcher. Glad to see him doing so well. I’ve always kinda liked the Mets anyway, so I’m hoping they go all the way.

  3. Yep, tough to argue with anything you just wrote…damn good analysis…I’m running with it! The Dodgers hitters and BP just don’t instill any fear and Kershaw deserved better than what he got in Game 1.
