German Economics Minister Declares “Trump Will Buckle” If Europe Sticks Together

U.S. President Donald Trump will “buckle under pressure” and alter his tariff policies if Europe bands together, acting German economy minister Robert Habeck said Thursday.

“That is what I see, that Donald Trump will buckle under pressure, that he corrects his announcements under pressure, but the logical consequence is that he then also needs to feel the pressure,” he said during a press conference, according to a CNBC translation.

“And this pressure now needs to be unfolded, from Germany, from Europe in the alliance with other countries, and then we will see who is the stronger one in this arm wrestle,” Habeck said. More

  1. European products sold in the US are things that can easily be purchased from American companies. Often for less money. And all this bluster is ridiculous considering Europe has tariffs on American products. They don’t call them tariffs, but that’s what they amount to.

  2. Habeck better not read the headlines on Breitbart. Trumps tariffs are kicking ass today. GM is increasing domestic production. So is Ford. And Stellantist just stopped all Canadian and Canadian production and will be moving it domestic. What these Eurweenies refuse to see is they are not even a viable market for US manufacturers. And on a side note, after all kinds of threats to find a better fighter than the F35 the UK very quietly placed a huge order for them. I wonder how long before all these globalists that are trying to stop the tariffs will need to throw in the towel.

  3. There was a statement in the linked article to the effect that Germany needed to be more self reliant because it could not always rely on its friends. The Economic Minister used the cut off of Russian energy after the Russia-Ukraine war kicked off as an example.

Hello, Mr. Minister – this is Trump policy and Trump has been beating the “America First” drum for a long time. If Germany does negotiate with the US over economics and indicates that “ja, we are going to put our national interests at the forefront,” Trump would probably respond with “you should have been doing this for decades. Now let’s negotiate something mutually satisfactory.”

Trump is, first and foremost, a businessman. Sure, he learned a lot about the reality of politics after losing to Biden, but his DNA is capitalism. Trump is going to put his organization, which is America, first – but in negotiating with foreign nations he will also try for a win-win situation. Just keep that in mind.
