FOX: A lagoon in western Greece is starting to look more like an abandoned home’s basement than a picturesque shoreline. The greenery surrounding the lagoon in Aitoliko is buried in thick, sticky cobwebs.
The webs are filled with Tetragnatha spiders — known as “stretch spiders” for their long bodies. There are hundreds of species of these spiders that live in various parts of the world.
Wildlife experts say it’s not uncommon for spiders to build massive nests for mating, especially when it’s hot and humid toward the end of summer.
Maria Chatzaki, professor of molecular biology and genetics at Democritus University of Thrace, told Newsit Greece’s high temperatures are creating the perfect climate for reproduction. read more

Sounds like an old fashioned Sat. afternoon creature feature. The Spiders From Hell, they’re out to get you, run for your lives. With large guest spider in a cameo role from The Lord of the Rings, Shelob. And the only thing that can kill them is Godzilla with his fiery dragon’s breath full of fire. I watched too many monster movies growing up but hey didn’t most baby boomers.

We had a web on the back porch last week and one of the stabilizing cables was SIX feet long for a web that was 24″ in diameter attached to the table umbrella.
Didn’t last…
Another one, during a recent storm, was hiding UNDER the flat lever handle of the back kitchen door.

We had a web that was about 6 ft. diameter stretched between several trees and bushes a few late summers ago in northern IN.
Two weeks ago I watched a spider wrap and devout a wasp. He doubled his size in 2 days. DH saw him do same the third day. Don’t know what happened to him. Will probably come to the sliding door and start knocking to get in.
Blame Rachael Carson who not only created the model for unscientific global warming research propaganda, but also got DDT banned.

Tetragnatha girl spiders are easy too. Perfect for a spider orgy. They wouldn’t file a complaint against judge awaiting a confirmation vote.
