  1. Man, this is a tough room.

I no longer care about anything to do with the NFL. Didn’t watch one second of the superbowl, don’t know what teams played, or which won. Don’t care. Didn’t watch or read about the NFL draft last week.

Don’t know anything about WU or its athletic department, or the two young men in the story. But until I learn differently, I will assume WU AD wants to recruit young men who want to be student-athletes, and improve their situation in life. Presumed innocent, and not thugs unless I later learn otherwise.

Condolences to family and friends of J.D. Simmons. I hope Corey Ballentine makes full recovery and has a successful life. He may have had his Bill Whittle moment, as in Biil’s recently told story of crash landing a glider when earning his pilot’s license. A close call that resulted in full focus on the important things in the future. And what 23 y.o. didn’t go places late on a weekend that could have turned out bad? I have a 23 y.o. son and hope he avoids being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I luckily avoided it, but I think it was easier to avoid it 30 ~ 40 years ago.

otoh. If I later learn JDS and CB were shot while attempting to do some kind of crime, then they may well deserve the – but they were just turning their life around attitude.
