Gilbert Gottfried has died. He was 67 years old.
The actor and comedian’s family announced the sad news on his official Twitter account Tuesday, alongside a photo of Gottfried.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children,” the family said.
“Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor. Love, the Gottfried family,” they added.
Gottfried’s longtime friend and publicist Glenn Schwartz tells PEOPLE in an official statement, “Beloved and iconic comedian Gilbert Gottfried passed away at 2:35 p.m. ET on April 12, 2022, from Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia due to Myotonic Dystrophy type II.”
Looked up Myotonic dystrophy.
It’s a form of Muscular dystrophy.
Sad.

I think he was the voice of the Aflac Duck until something happened and he got canceled. RIP Gilbert.
That goes in the loss column for me. Not a big deal as decades ago I disassociated myself from music and all celebrity. But he seemed like a guy who tried hard at his craft.

Never heard a complaint about Gottfried jumping on the woke bandwagon and for that he gets my respect and sorrow at his passing.

I grieve more for my dear friend, Louie Anderson. But since I only visit this site when I’m bored, I never came on here.
Even as a little kid in the eighties I didn’t get all his jokes,but I knew there was something funny about the guy. I’ve kept up with his career & think he was a very unique,very funny voice in his industry. He never apologized when people came for his scalp. Lots of kudos for his unique style & brave wit. My heart goes out to his family. A. Truly man.
