A British-born Italian teenager dubbed ‘God’s Influencer’ for his efforts to spread the Catholic faith online will become the first millennial saint Sunday at a canonisation attended by thousands of pilgrims.
Computer whiz Carlo Acutis, who died of leukaemia in 2006 aged 15, will be raised to sainthood by Pope Leo XIV in a solemn ceremony in St Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
The teenager’s body, dressed in jeans and a pair of Nike trainers, lies in a glass-walled tomb in Assisi, visited by hundreds of thousands of people a year. More
It seems everyone who knew him knew he was unusual and special.
An incredible young man.
Hey there’s hope for all those Tik Tok influencers.
There’s people on here spreading the faith for years, where’s their Sainthood?
^ They’re not dead yet. (Or they’re not Catholic. 😅)
Christ is the sole mediator between God and mankind. As part of the Godhead, He shed His blood on a cross as required to make that so. Proving His love on behalf of his creation.
Literally proping up and praying to “good Catholic” dead people is not an affirmation of faith in Christ. This goes beyond a memorial. It’s idol worship. Catholicism typically incorporates different cultural pagan practices to indicate faithfulness to the Catholic religion. Misleading millions into believing they are following the Christian faith. That’s reprobate deception.
In the Catholic religion why are only a few honored as saints? That’s not Biblical. God acknowledges all who know Him by faith. Catholic sainthood is an example of the bastardization of Christian sainthood. A Christian saint is simply anyone who trusts and accepts Christ as Savior and Lord.
The error of Catholic sainthood proves the traditions of men do not do services or come close to the eternal life affirming ways of The True and Living God established by faith in Christ alone.
The waiting period to begin the sainthood process used to be 50 years, but Pope John Paul II shortened it to five years in 1983. The pope can also waive the waiting period entirely in exceptional cases, which has happened with figures like Mother Teresa and John Paul II himself.
A historical shift
The 50-year rule was instituted in the 17th century by Pope Urban VIII to ensure a candidate’s holiness was enduring and not just based on passing enthusiasm.
The rule helped avoid the hasty canonization of unworthy candidates and allowed for a more objective review of a person’s life.
I posted that not to in any way diminish or impeach the candidate. I don’t care for innovation and I particularly don’t like it in that case. The candidate is in heaven and couldn’t care less one way or the other. It is that this innovation was put in place for political purposes. I remember when it took place and I remember the debate well.
Saints aren’t what they used to be…
99th squad leader, while I fully believe my own parents are in heaven, they could not be canonized. The process is very rigorous including having non-believers gather evidence against the candidate. They must also find evidence of miracles the occurred with intercession to the soul in Heaven.
I encourage everyone to learn more about Carlos, an extraordinary life of faith can only draw us closer to Christ.
Also, I ask people to pray for me all the time, why wouldn’t I ask someone I believe to be there with God to pray for me? I ask my own parents, although they are not canonized. I don’t ask dead people to pray for me.
