Woman drove for days in Alaska with husband’s body in casket.
KETCHIKAN, Alaska (AP) — A woman who drove her husband’s body on a days-long traveling wake in Alaska and used ice from canneries to keep him cold is not accused of breaking any laws.
Officers responded to a call last week to find the body of a 78-year-old man inside an aluminum transport casket. more
The last road trip with a loving wife.
Alaska is a great place! I can see making one last trip. RIP, and take of yourself lady.
Good thing they weren’t in the lower 48. In many (if not most) states you can’t even move a dead body across the room without falling afoul of the law. Paperwork must be filled out, transport by authorized personnel must be arranged, etc., etc.
You can thank the funeral industry lobby for many of the laws like that, of course.
🙂
Yeah, it’s personal. I can see it. They probably were to have taken that trip together.
Smart lady, he never bothered to ask for directions anyway.
Years ago we helped a family friend move her husbands casket from Las Vegas to Elko, NV….in a U-Haul truck.
Question:
What if you were driving home and your spouse died in the passenger seat a mile from your house…
Would you?
Pull over and wave someone over to call the police?
Drive the last mile and take care of things once you are at home?
Just wondering…..

Depends if there was a pub somewhere in between.
An uncle of mine died while he and my aunt were on a cruise in Alaska. He was up in his years and had known health problems but wanted to see Alaska.
They didn’t take the body back on the ship. It sounded like a very complicated process to get his body back to Texas. Other family members had to fly up there to help. Lots of trouble and sadness.
@Unruly: They probably didn’t have long-term storage facilities for your uncle on the ship. On short cruises, they bring your body back to the port of embarkation (at least they do here in Texas).
On the bright side, though, you do get to disembark before any of the other passengers.
