Great Idea By Senator Ted Cruz

The El Chapo Act –

Axios –

Senator Ted Cruz wants to use assets seized from drug lords such as El Chapo, the Mexican kingpin who was recently extradited to the U.S., to pay for border security and the border wall.

  • The idea: U.S. prosecutors are seeking $14 billion in drug profits and other assets from El Chapo. They also routinely seize the assets of other drug dealers and traffickers.
  • The Cruz quote: “Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border.”
  • The acronym’s meaning: Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order
  • Why it matters: President Trump is trying to figure out how to pay for his border wall, which will require American taxpayers to front the bill, but Republicans aren’t helping at the moment.

  1. Works for me as long as it doesn’t get tangled up in the courts.

I still think a GoFundMe to build the wall would defy Congress as it would represent American people defying the political class. I’d chip in. There wouldn’t be a thing Schumer and Pelosi could do about it.
It would be the ultimate repudiation to democrats and the Mexican government.

  2. Trump should have expanded the meaning of the wall so idiots could understand. The reduction in flow over the border has already dramatically been reduced. Yes, there will be some form of a physical wall but there is already a legal wall (current laws now being enforced), an emotional wall (fed up Americans) and a symbolic wall (Trump’s election) and that is the power of his wall!!!!

  3. ” President Trump is trying to figure out how to pay for his border wall, ”

Yo, Donald, I’ll start the kitty by kicking in $5,000, and I’m pretty much a pauper. Imagine how quick it would be funded if citizens were allowed to subsidize the construction costs. Hell, I’ll even go down to the border on my dime for a few weeks and haul bricks and mix concrete.

  4. They could start by using the $1,500,000,000 already allocated to the wall. Among others approving the bill funding the wall were Pelosi, Obama (as a senator) and Schumer.

  5. “They also routinely seize the assets of other drug dealers and traffickers.”

No. Not even close. They routinely steal what they can from people they grab at random.

  6. If we seize a drug kingpin’s assets to pay for the wall, does that mean American citizens technically pay for the wall since they buy most of the drugs?

I’m sure the opponents will say the wall was built with “Blood Money”, and should have gone back to Mexican victims of the drug war.

  7. @Abigail. There Certainly is a large fence around the White House. Don’t know when it went up. Wasn’t there
During Lincoln, but it’s been there since I first saw it in 1977. Keeping undesirables out is its only purpose

  8. @PHenry — Yes, but I think it would be easier to just brick up the entries to the Congress — wall them up or wall them out — either way I think Americans would be better off at this point.

Glad to see Dobbs, again tonight, bashing the hell out of Ryan and taking Bratt to task on the House’s spineless and nonexistent push back against him.

  9. I have no feasible reason to trust Ted Cruz, at all at this point, but regardless of his past slimy behavior, this newest ‘idea’ of his is incredibly suspect to me.
First of all, if you click the link he tweeted out, beneath the initial ‘I’m IN!’ part, there is a contribution button. Secondly, does anyone honestly believe that Ted, the very same person who was against the border wall and was all for globalist policies like h1-b visas, tpp, etc, that he would be all of the sudden for the wall and totally on board with it? Please. He needs cash for reelection, and he needs support for reelection, I don’t trust him one iota.

  10. It is hilarious when democrats oppose spending, especially on the grounds that it is wasteful. How much do we give Mexico in foreign aid? Start the wall with that money. Confiscate the remittances to Mexico by illegals. Fine those who hire illegals.
