Ground Control to Major Chong

A Chinese space crew is stranded at the country’s Tiangong space station after tiny pieces of space debris were believed to have struck their return capsule, China’s spaceflight agency said Wednesday.

The three-member Shenzhou-20 team had been scheduled to return to Earth on Wednesday, but their mission has been temporarily extended as engineers conduct impact analysis and risk assessments on the damaged spacecraft, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said in a statement.

Their return date has been postponed indefinitely, according to state broadcaster CCTV, which offered no further details. More

  1. I REMEMBER CAMPING WITH MY DAD IN THE HIGH SIERRAS, A FAVORITE SPOT WAS AT THE FOOT OF THE MINARETS, ALONGSIDE LAKE EDIZA

AT NIGHT, WHEN THE CLOUDS WOULD CLEAR, THE STARS WERE AMAZING

OCCASIONALLY, YOU COULD SPOT A LEO SATELLITE MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS

TODAY, ALMOST ANYWHERE, THAT SIGHTING IS A REGULAR OCCURRENCE

SO MANY SATELLITES UP THERE, IT’S BECOMING THE SANTA MONICA FWY

  2. Major Chong to Ground Control: All of it was that Chinese take-out stuff you gave us just before launch. It was so bad we couldn’t finish it, so we chucked it out of the window.

  3. China is going to have to hurry and get another spacecraft up to their station. Salvage what they can from the damaged ship before releasing it. Musk can not send one up since the docking rings will not interface since they stole our design, made alterations, then called it their own.

  4. Why the need to Dock?
    Just EVA over.
    Good practice too.

Again, why dock> Is it re-supply reasons like O2?
If so, that should and ought to be umbilicalized.
    For just such a situation.
    O2 Tankers.

  5. I handled liquid oxygen bottles (lox) as one of my jobs as a plane captain on F-4 Phantom fighter jets while in the Navy. The lox bottles provided the oxygen needed for the pilots while flying. Liquid oxygen is not dangerous in itself unless it is exposed to any kind of flammable source. Safety was always a primary concern when loading lox bottles onto the bottom of the F-4’s and you never ever were allowed to smoke around the lox bottles or have any kind of flammable liquid nearby because of the danger of explosion. I never had any problems doing this because I was extremely well aware of the danger if not installed properly or carelessness. Carelessness will get you killed or the pilot if not installed properly. And safety was drilled into our heads constantly to make sure that everything was done correctly to prevent any unnecessary accidents.
