An increasing number of Democratic lawmakers are calling on the Biden administration to refreeze $6 billion in assets the U.S. recently made available to Iran for humanitarian purposes as part of a prisoner swap deal.
Since Hamas’ attack on Israel, Republicans have been blaming the Biden administration, claiming, without evidence, that Iran used the unfrozen funds to help Hamas carry it out.
Administration officials have been clear that none of the $6 billion has been accessed yet and that it can be used only for humanitarian reasons.
The Blue Dog Coalition, a group of moderate Democrats, said in a statement today that the U.S. should immediately freeze the $6 billion. more

Oh come on man, really? Just so you know, 10% just got a cost of living increase. It’s now 15% & my corvette is worth a half billion dollars because of the famous owner. So it seems my wealth just keeps on climbing. Boy is life great.
Just the suggestion the money might be released created a sound piece of collateral for Iran to borrow against and one might imagine that is what they did. Even repeatedly rehypothecated money has value while the chain remains unbroken and with this administration being run in part by Valerie Jarrett, a child of Iran, the chain is short and quite strong.
Whom knows, this might be a globalist move as well, the Ukraine extravaganza didn’t get the war going well enough so try another shot. There’s still Taiwan and Serbia as well as the action in Africa.
The world economy is swimming in debt, debt bought and sold and used as collateral for further debt many many times over. The bankers are running out of ways to sell more and like any other commodity as the supply increases the value decreases.
