Interesting that they don’t say by how much your risk of stroke goes up if you do 40 push-ups regularly.
I finally know why i am still alive. 3 of 4 guys who graduated with me are dead.
No mention of the benefits of running a 6 min mile with 200 lbs on your body carrying a 7.5lb M14. I think this also helped me.

I have not been able to do 40 since I was 72; but I still do some at least 4 times a week – just in case do gets killed.

I can do that shit…No problem! But I’d need help getting back up.
As Uncle Al suggests, I’d probably suffer a stroke if I even attempted forty.
It would likely kick in around nine.

Jarhead…I’ll never forget FMF at Camp Del Mar (on the ocean side of I-5 of Pendleton) back in the 60’s on Sunday mornings my buddy and I use to go for morning runs on the beach and some of the young ladies out early on the beach would yell at us “RECON” and Ed would reply OOORAH!(even though we were just Corpsmen) then one morning just after that happened he started passing a kidney stone and did a face plant right there in the surf! I told the bystanders that he just had a massive hangover! 🙂
define “one session” …
for that matter, define “push-up” … is it a ‘real’ push-up w/ only toes & hands touching the floor, lowering yourself until your chest (not your gut) touches the floor & then raising yourself w/ just your arms …. or those ‘girly-man’ push-ups they do these days?
As long as “one session” is at least 24 hours, no problem.
Saw this article earlier on another site, and I am proud to say i got my 40 pushups in tonight at the gym at age 62. I guess the wife will have to put up with me for 10 more years.

This brings up a pet peeve of mine. In my state, like many others, Firefighters have an accelerated retirement schedule (over other public employees) supposedly because they “die at a younger age” due to their “hazardous jobs”. However, statistically, highway workers have higher risk jobs, and school teachers tend to have shorter life expectancy. But firefighters are “heroes”, so I’m an asshole for even bringing it up.

UHM… how many Indiana firefighters between ages 30 and 40 cannot do 40 pushups… or get heart attacks? I think if one fat guy had a heart attack, and also happened to not be able to do 40 pushups, well there’s your 96% statistic.

Stopped doing 40 every morning when he hit 72.
Now I know how long it’ll take to excise the voice of Sgt. Davis from my head. Currently he’s reminding me in the morning that I’m not tired or sore because “YOU’VE HAD 6 HOURS OF F*&$%^ING SLEEP AND SHOULD BE ALL RESTED UP BY NOW.”
When I was 19, I could do unlimited sit-ups and push-ups. Now, at 109, I limit each to around 100 rep’s followed by 26-mile runs and ten-mile swims. Of course, multiple women are waiting for me at the end with big smiles and home-cookin’ and such.
