Harley-Davidson Halts Electric Motorcycle Production Due to Charging Problems

Breitbart: Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has reportedly halted the production of its first electric motorcycle after discovering a problem related to the vehicle’s charging equipment. The company also warned consumers not to charge the bikes at their home.

The Wall Street Journal reports that motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has halted the production of its Livewire electric motorcycle as the company conducts tests to investigate an issue with the vehicle’s charging equipment. The company stated on Monday that tests were going well but did not clarify when production of the vehicle would resume.

The legendary motorcycle manufacturer is banking on the LiveWire electric motorcycle to jump-start sales in its U.S. market after it recently cut its forecast for motorcycle shipments and reported weaker results in its latest quarter. Michelle Kumbier, the company’s chief operating officer, wrote in a memo sent to dealers last week: “This is disappointing for all of us.”

  1. Trump tried to point them in the right direction and they were to stupid to see it. Branding is everything. if I were to purchase a bad ass bike right now it would be an Indian. In fact, I’m really thinking about it.

  2. Harley was never even on my long list. My Dad had a couple of Triumphs, my Uncle had one, I had one. Actually Dad had a 2 stroke Harley. I remember it was about 1979… Dad fixed something in it and rode across the yard and the fucking flywheel popped off and zinged at 100mph across the yard. It may have been the entire magneto plate. That was the end of the Harley.

The problem with electric motor bikes is that they are even gayer than electric cars.

  3. Anon Eric, your dad had a Harley Aermacchi. They imported them from Italy during their AMF days. Mostly on/off road bikes. Not know for their performance or reliability. They were doing snowmobiles back then too.

  4. Horatio Prim, there is no real anon. Once you’ve been RIPPED a couple times you realize it doesn’t hurt so bad. Could even be part of the fun. It reminds me of what Satch (my old Golden Retriever) would say, “I’d rather be praised than punished, but I’d rather be punished than ignored”. He was a smart old dog.

  5. Horatio Prim,
you’re not likely to get “ripped” if you don’t do personal attacks. If you have read through some of the posts and comments, you’ll see lots of facts and opinions, ranging all over the political map, mainly conservative but some liberal (in a light vein, A Pos I think).
Some people relate personal experiences, and that’s ok, too.
Try to stay on topic, but OT (Off Topic) is ok.
But PLEASE no personal attacks. You can attack ideas and opinions.

Oh, and PS, welcome to one of the more intelligent, and also one of the rowdiest bunch on The Interwebz, I Own The World Report.

  6. Being ripped isn’t the end of the world.

Bad Brad used to tear me a new asshole about every day. And Aaron Burr. But Burr… I haven’t seen him here in a long time.

Burr had (has) the beautiful ability to stuff it in your face without being a bastard.

And that doesn’t mean I revile Brad. I thought Brad was a solid cat. He’d get a bit rambunctious, but what the hell? Solid Cat.

  7. @ Joe and Toxic – thanks for the advice, I just don’t like the fact a person can accuse you, or libel you, like leftists do our POTUS and their is zero retribution, on a post, like any anon can do.

You know who does this? Antifa does this. They hide behind a mask and a leaded glove and and anon on the Interwebz can hide behind four freakin’ letters? And just get away with it.

Okay whatever, I’ll mosey along…keep the head low.

  8. Horatio, one more thing about getting ripped here is that it could sharpen up your ability to keep your cool and still carry on a discussion/debate out there in the real world. Consider it practice.

  9. Joe6pak,

I think it also comes down to timing, like most things.

Meaning, being more late night allows to be more under the radar and less chaff.

And drop a bimb…or two, on the way out, flying and sleeping into the darkness.

    Thanks again.

    BASEBALL CARDS?!?
Naw. I used Mom & Dad’s playing cards. I would NEVER use a baseball card for anything except trading or collecting.
Besides the playing cards were “Bicycle” brand, so they just had to go on the ole Huffy.

  11. To avoid overheating the battery, especially during charging, Teslas use the air conditioner – a power suck comparable to running 2 large refrigerators, which is continuous over a certain temperature. They still burst into flames.

Li-ion battery fires are a millions to 1 risk, but that seems like too much of a risk, if it’s in your garage. The risk rises with the number of cells used, and the number of recharge cycles they go through.

Harley may have experienced a battery fire after making thousands of bikes, with hundreds of cells each, causing them to reconsider the liability. I’ve read that you can get more costly cells (~4x) that have a reduced risk – but then a 1000$ battery pack will cost 4000.

  12. @ Horatio

You are experiencing what every new “public” poster experiences.

‘Wow. I just put my opinion in print where I have no more control over it! What if someone doesn’t like it? What if I haven’t thought this through enough and exposed my ignorance?’

It’s the coming back – with the same identifier – and seeing what others have to say about it that can be unnerving. So many people are used to being able to snipe anonymously all over the web. It’s different when you’re recognizable when you return.

Some people change their screen name just to get past a bad rep from crap they’ve posted. Mithrander – formerly known as Half Assed Patriot – is one of them here. You don’t see people constantly trashing him, gets lots of TUs. But he will get ripped every time he posts crap, just like anyone. Including me.

You’ll survive. Everyone gets ripped at some point. Standing for conservative values goes a long way around here. Trashing cops? Not so much. You’ll get ripped every time. It’s the way it is here.

There are at least a dozen cops/former-cops that frequent this joint every week. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was dozens.

As you may have noticed – you build zero “good” reputation by staying anonymous. Who respects a coward?

Be real. Pretty much all you need. People will get to know you and care about you.

Notice there is never a memorial page for anonymous-es that don’t post here any more because they died. How would we know? Why would we care about someone who steadfastly hid themselves from us?

Welcome to the light of day, Horatio. I’m looking forward to your posts.

The real self control is not TU-ing your own posts for fake acceptance/agreement numbers. lol

  13. I’m not a coward here because I identify myself every time and you can confront me for my words any time you see me.

You? No accountability. You do you.

I use a screen name because people like you may drive by my home and try to do me harm. Like weak cowards do when they lose an argument and can only think of hateful things instead of having a thought-out point.

If you had read and understood what I was saying, you would have understood the answer to your question. It’s in that post. You just want to lash out ANONYMOUSLY.

You really haven’t thought out the whole screen name vs anon vs real name yet. Apparently, not being accountable for your words is your thing.

Just in case you weren’t aware, everyone will be held accountable for every word spoken. You’re not anon where it counts. No one is.

    Matthew 12:36

Question for you: What is the real problem with sticking with a screen name since you are still, IRL, as anon as anyone else here?

    > What is the real problem with sticking with a screen name since you are still, IRL, as anon as anyone else here?

Because people are lazy. All people. All the time. It’s the human condition.

If “crazy Beto” said it, you can ignore “it”. Whatever “it” is. No matter how, unbelievably unlikely, true “it” happens to be.

If uncredited, then the idea must stand (or fall) on it’s own.

  15. Do they come with a recording of a real Harley engine sound, linked to throttle position to vary the frequency, and high power sound system with speakers? Plus an off balance fly wheel to simulate engine vibration, too? If not, what would be the appeal to Harley fans?

  16. I recall playing a prank on a good friend years ago, the old, “pouring drain oil on the ground under the primary” on his freshly rebuilt ’73 HD while he was working. Laughed my ass off watching him on all fours crawling around looking for the leak. Break out the slide rule to find an equivalent prank with the new electric version.
