Richard Roundtree, an icon of Blaxploitation film who starred as detective John Shaft in Gordon Parks’ 1971 action thriller, died Tuesday afternoon after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81 years old.
His death was confirmed by Patrick McMinn, his manager since 1987. More
“I wasn’t exploited. I made a lot of money.”
Shut yo mouth.

I saw that movie for the first time a few years ago. It was actually much better than I expected.
For today’s music trivia, the recording engineer for The Theme From Shaft by Isaac Hayes won a Grammy for his efforts. His name was Dave Purple, and he was the first bass played for the Chicago group, The Crayan Shames. I think he left the group because he got drafted.

Dave is third from the left in that picture..
RMM: Isaac Hayes was also a frequent guest star on The Rockford Files, back in the 70’s.
RIP Richard Roundtree. Enjoyed your work, especially “Shaft”, with Chicago Typewriters stylin’ and profilin’!
I came up with the name “Shaft.”
