Hegseth Has Tapped Investigators for Botched Afghanistan Withdrawal: ‘Accountability Will Be Coming’

Breitbart

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview that he has already picked investigators who will look into the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.

“We’ve already identified folks that’ll be in charge of that full investigation inside the Pentagon,” Hegseth said in the interview Thursday.

“I don’t have a timeframe on it. Sadly, we’ve already waited two-and-a-half years, three years since what occurred. I don’t want to wait longer, but I always want to get it right,” he said. more

  2. I’m very encouraged and glad to know that the new bosses are more than interested in taking the time and energy to prioritize getting to the truth of so many “botched” (I detest that word) operations within the gov’t. At first I was conflicted about making investigations a priority; concerned that doing so would mire the new administration in activities that would do little to move the ball down the field and give the Left more fodder for their “it’s all retribution!” complaint. I think very differently about it now. It’s absolutely necessary for the recovery of our representative republic’s survival.

  3. ‘Accountability Will Be Coming’

This gets me as jazzed as the Trump dance, and MAGA.

Ordinary citizens live their lives knowing that decisions made involve real-world repercussions. If you drive too fast you might get a ticket, screw up at work and your job might be in jeopardy, fuck around on your wife and she will leave, taking half your shit and the kids. Knowing the penalty for bad decisions guides us in making good ones.

But these behavioral guardrails don’t apply to the government. Too many times we see abuse, negligence, cowardice, dereliction of duty, even misconduct under color of authority………….and nothing happens. In the absence of justice, confidence is eroded.

I would like all of the Trump appointees to adopt this mantra, “Accountability Will Be Coming”, Kash especially. I would like heads to role but will settle for public shaming and ostracizing from society. Demotions and loss of pensions would also be nice.

  4. Trump knows MAGA ain’t up for no strongly worded letters, and a wink and a nod to their friends across the aisle, as well as those in their own ranks, to have closure on what has gone down. His Cabinet picks make that clear.

  5. The challenge is that a lot of innocent servicepeople will get caught in the sweep. Plainly, there was an order to abandon ship and leave everything behind. This was Biden and Milley’s doing.

  6. This is way overdue. National Command Authority (White House), Pentagon Command Staff, and directions issued as orders to the local command need to be chronicled and evaluated for failures.
People died for no mission advancenent.

This needs accountability and appropriate punishment.
