Hillary’s Burmese Heroine Just Might Be A War Criminal

Oops.

DC: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fawned over Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s pro-democracy campaigner and helped her to win office, but the female Burmese leader is now being regarded as a war criminal for her government’s scorched-earth military operation that so far has created 410,000 refugees.

Clinton worked tirelessly to help Suu Kyi behind the scenes, culminating in Suu Kyi’s 2015 election to a post called “state counselor,” the equivalent of prime minister.

In her 2014 memoir, “Hard Choices,” Clinton breathlessly endorsed Suu Kyi, comparing her to some of the most heralded statesmen of our time.

“She exhibited qualities I had glimpsed before” Clinton wrote, “including Nelson Mandela and Václav Havel. Like them, she carried the hopes of a nation on her shoulders.” Havel was a Czech dissident and the Czech Republic’s first president after the fall of communism.

“You have been an inspiration, I told Suu Kyi,” Clinton wrote.   more here

  1. The Rohingya Muslims have been killing Buddhists in Myanmar for years. Killing monks, beheading women and children, burning temples and generally behaving as Muslims do everywhere they pollute the earth with their presence. They are ethnically Bangladesh and should be sent there or to hell. Their choice. My Give-A-Fuck-O-Meter is stuck on zero fucks given if these animals are being purged. 2. Even more interesting is the fact that Facebook seems to be censoring all mention of what’s going on over there:

Wirecutter, from Knuckledraggin My Life Away, posted the following:

“As I go over to my FB page to post this to see if I can get suspended again.

Update: It lasted 45 minutes before it went away. No suspension yet. I’ll screenshot the notification for you if I do get a time out.”

  3. My understanding is that the military is conducting these operations on their own. In fairness to Suu Kyi, she has to tread a fine line else the army throws her back into house arrest or worse. Just because they let her out and she won an election doesn’t mean that the military isn’t actually running the joint behind the scenes.

  4. I don’t pretend to know what is going on in Burma, but I can read between the lines.”The Rohingya people are a Muslim ethnic minority group in Burma.” Maybe some ethnicities need “cleansing”. Burma is simply reacting to what is happening in their neighboring countries (and around the world), i.e. muslim terrorism, and they (the military) are kicking the muslims out. Big clue: John McCain is pro-Rohingya. If only Europe and the US would do a little “cleansing” of the non-violent kind, the world would be a much better place.

  5. There’s truth to what scr_north says–ever since 8-8-88 and SLORC, Suu Kyi has had to deal with one nasty piece of work after another. She actually won an election as long ago as 1990 (or early 90s) but it was not recognized by the junta. Her house arrest was extended repeatedly and laws were quickly established simply to keep her from making any gains, e.g. that no leader of Burma is permitted to be married to a foreigner, which she was (he died in England while she was under house arrest). She also will never be president because her two boys hold British passports.

Also, laying persecution of the Rohingyas squarely at the feet of Aung Sann Suu Kyi is complete BS–this goes back way before her and contrary to the innocent victims the media portray the Rohingya as, they too have committed offenses against Burmese citizens, who responded angrily. Suu Kyi is also up against the military as well as a percentage of their holdings in Parliament. There is more on it here: http://thediplomat.com/2017/04/stop-the-suu-kyi-blame-game-in-myanmar/ and here: https://qz.com/1072090/in-defense-of-aung-san-suu-kyi/

and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true the military instigates some of these attacks in order to discredit her.

It’s tempting to go after anything Hillary praises, but there’s a lot more behind the scenes than front page Google results will show. Also, call me unsurprised if Hillary glommed onto her because she was a popular figure.
