Hollywood Production Workers Vote To Strike

Camera operators, make-up artists and other behind-the-scenes workers on Hollywood films and television shows voted resoundingly to authorize a strike if they cannot reach agreement with producers on a new contract, their union said on Monday.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) which represents some 60,000 off-screen workers, said that 90% of its members cast ballots and more than 98% of the votes returned were in favor of authorizing a strike. More

  1. Maybe the actors can pay. Hell, fire all the daytime talking head and nighttime hosts and use that money.

  2. Well, since I don’t watch any live TV at the moment…
My TV isn’t directly connected to the cable, so I have to stream. I can do live, but I have to commit to the single show, including commercials. So I stream. And fortunately there is just barely enough – oops, I mean more than I could possibly consume.
Only new stuff I am watching is Only Murders In the Building (Hulu – highly recommend), and, well, Archer.

  3. The local high school kids could do what the current “professional” writers do.
Rewrite all the old movies and shows replacing men with women and whites with blacks.
I watch old shows on Pluto and Roku.

  4. They can stay on strike forever, for all I care.

One problem they face is a lack of original stories. There are only so many times you can watch the good guy or guys go up against all odds and defeat the bad guy or guys. It’s a theme that’s been used in storytelling for thousands of years and there is not much if anything to replace it as far as I can tell. The bad guy can be a monster or alien, but its the same stuff, over and over. Taking up a hobby or reading is a better us of time, in my opinion.

They’ll keep trying to put a new spin on Star Wars but it’s the same old shit re-cycled.
