House GOP Calls for Moving Vital Industries From China to America

WFB

House Republicans are pushing to seal the deal on a host of policies to withdraw vital American industries from China in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The GOP-chartered House China Task Force issued a report on Wednesday that calls in part for Congress to enact the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act’s bevy of policies. Those policies, many of which have already passed the House, aim at reducing U.S. supply chain dependency on the Chinese Communist regime, which the report labeled a risk to American safety and prosperity.

“The next step is to get this NDAA, to get this defense bill—we sadly kicked the can on that to December—to get that over the finish line,” Rep. Michael Waltz (R., Fla.), who helped draft the report, told the Washington Free Beacon. “I think it has a number of very good provisions in there. I think that’s the most immediate legislative vehicle.”

Republicans have been pushing for supply chain repatriation since late March, when coronavirus-induced hoarding in China contributed to the United States’ struggle to provide adequate medical materiel to front-line doctors. The China Task Force’s recommendations signal that Republicans and some Democrats are still eager to pass reshoring measures through the act and other legislation in the next session. read more

  1. Tim,

That’s likely the result of how complicated and tangled a mess it is… It’s been festering for decades. You have to talk to the company CEO’s first, and figure out how to decouple without interrupting supply chains, etc… Figure out what assets are write off’s and which one’s you need to try and move. Once it’s “law” it’s public, and China can react and retaliate.

  2. Why on earth would you deliver your “vital supply chain” industries into the hands of your enemies?

Here’s the $64,000.00 dollar question for Congress: “Which constituency are you representing in this representational republic?”

Never mind. We already know that K Street writes all our legislation.

    Cripes.

  3. Apparently the only thing that moves slower than congress is a glacier. This is pretty much a no brainer and should have been done as soon as the issue arose.
Question, how many congresscritters will have to dispose of their Chinese investments if this bill passes not counting the Biden cartel.

  4. How come it takes an act of congress to make stuff in the U.S.? Bullshit. It takes a change of consumer attitude to make stuff in the U.S. I asked Charlie Hagar (Hagar Hinge) why he moved his hinge production to China. His answer, “I had to move to China to stay competitive.” There’s your facts. WTF??

  5. They whine to see Trump’s tax returns. He was a private citizen.

More importantly, the tax returns of all Senators and Representatives should be made public ANNUALLY.

    Who am I kidding
