Houston police chief tells frustrated or laid off officers from defunded departments: ‘Come to Houston’

Blaze: Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo has a message for disgruntled or laid off officers from around the country amid the growing nationwide trend to defund the police: “Come to Houston.”

The police chief told local news outlet KRIV-TV this week that his department is working on a new program to streamline the process for out-of-state officers to come and serve in Houston.

The new program reportedly could consist of a 10-week academy course, instead of the typical course that lasts six months.

“The people of Houston, they don’t want less policing, they want better policing and well-trained police officers,” Acevedo said as his department welcomed 44 new officers this week and look forward to the addition of 400 officers over the next several months.

“We’re excited about the restoration of five classes, while places like Austin [Texas] are cutting a significant amount of police resources,” he continued.

Acevedo was making reference to the Austin City Council’s unanimous vote last week to cut $150 million from the city’s police budget and reinvest the money into various other community programs.

“I think it’s ridiculous when you make decisions that are knee-jerk political decisions that are not based on evidence, not based on research,” Acevedo added. “It ends up impacting the safety of American people in Austin.” more here

  1. Between Portland and Seattle, Houston should be able to recruit a couple thousand cops before Labor Day. After they’re unloaded the moving vans in Houston, refill the moving vans with Houston bums, send the bums to Portland and Seattle. Well worth the investment.

  2. One of the protest groups demanding changes to the Seattle Police Department wrote a letter to the city and to soon retiring chief Carmen Best to please please reconsider her retirement. She’s a a person of color and a woman and is the perfect person to transition the department to better policies…blah blah blah.

She wrote back and essentially said, “Thanks but…No.” 😂

  3. Art Acevedo is a fucking prick. He’s the one that defended the no-knock raid on the wrong home that got two innocent people slaughtered. They were working white people, though, so nobody rioted.

  4. I had considered Acevedo a class act until he bent over and spread his cheeks for the BLM movement, even marching with them. The gay black mayor, Sylvester Turner, and city council heartily approved. Acevedo has made numerous changes to a troubled department and stands by his men when they are in the right. However when they falsify a no knock warrant and kill the innocent homeowner he will see that they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Sorus backed DA is a problem though. Rampant crime has and probably always will be a serious problem in Houston.
I recently GTFO of Houston and moved to rural Kentucky and I have never been more at ease.
