Hurricane Hilary Threatens California

Tropical Storm Hilary formed off the coast of Mexico Wednesday morning and is moving north, set to become a major hurricane by Friday or Saturday morning, and ending up possibly soaking the Southland early next week.

Hilary could top out as at least Category 3 intensity in the next few days, all the while far from land. The storm will weaken as it passes over the Baja Peninsula.  More

  1. Geography lesson – What kids learned in 1958 pr repeated 7th grade, so I had learned it 3 years before.-
    In the West they are Typhoons. In the East it is Hurricane.

    I have been in both; many time each.

  2. I’ve never been in a hurricane, but I have been in a typhoon in the South China Sea between Hong Kong and the Philippines in the Spring of 1974 on board the USS Kitty Hawk. Ol Jarhead is right in the West, the Pacific Ocean they’re known as typhoons while in the East, the Atlantic Ocean they’re known as hurricanes.
