I Made It! – IOTW Report

I Made It!

As I was heading toward the border of MN and WI, I saw the Welcome to Minnesota sign on the other side of the freeway. I didn’t see it in my rear view mirror, so I turned around and said, “Bye, Minnesota!” No, I didn’t wave!

The above sign is what I would have seen had I driven down by Chicago and up to Michigan (which was my plan), but my sister had a brilliant idea – take the ferry from Milwaukee, WI to Muskegon, MI over Lake Michigan. So, I did, and it was such a pleasure to have that break in the middle of a long travel day. It didn’t cost as much as I thought and saved on gas and wear on my Jeep.

So, I’m here and will soon be busy visiting family, unpacking and looking for work. But for today, I will try to wrap my brain around being back in the state I was born and raised in. I had a flash of “Gee, I’m not in Minnesota anymore!” moment. Having lived in MN for 34 years, I will have some good memories and will treasure them, but being home gives me such a peaceful feeling. I’ll go see Mom in the nursing home so she can stop worrying that she will fall, break her hip and die before I get home. Poor thing; she told my sister that she was afraid that would happen!

I want to thank you all for your well wishes – I knew I had prayers and thoughts going up for me. Things went so smoothly that I know God was watching over me. He knew that if he didn’t, you guys would get mad at him!

But, seriously, thank you.

  1. Welcome to troll land, newly minted resident (us that live below the bridge are “trolls” dontcha know. Did you drive north or south after debarking? Just asking because you would be welcome to stop in for a beer if anywhere near the twin cities (Michigan SW that is).

  2. I’ve been thinking about you ever since you posted here that you were traveling! Thanks for letting us know you made it safely. Now enjoy your family and the rest of your life!

  3. So glad you enjoyed a ferry trip across. I’ve never been up there but I do like big ferries. Hang out, eat, look around. Just completely veg out and give your brain a break. And smile.
I’m glad your trip was safe and without incident.

  4. Claudia, your post made me tear up. So glad you let us know how God took care of you. How close to the IN border are you? I’ll buy lunch.

I was born in MI and lived there till I was near 5.

  5. TFR, I was already on the cusp of the real shit storm. About 35 miles out of Chicongo. I just moved anothet 40 from there. Still in Shitllinois, but with more normal people.

    I forgot to add previously.

    Congratulations on your move Claudia!

  6. Claudia – I did the same as you. After spending my adult life in the West (California, Nevada, Washington), I returned to Pennsylvania, the state of my birth. Maybe it is age, but I feel like I never left. Peaceful. It just feels right. I wish you happiness in your new (old) home. God bless.

  7. imo, the most important thing is that you made a decision to move to a better place, AND YOU DID IT. It is your life and yes, your decisions affect others but, not making a decision is making a decision (which is to never change).

Not all changes are improvements, however, you cannot have improvement without change.
(we recently moved 1800 mi west from all we knew, and are very happy we did it)

  8. I love ferries, any city or place with a ferry I have been, ridden it.
Coastal islands, metropolises, foreign lands, love ferries.
Claudia, it’s a good way, ferry over to your new home.
    Pilgrims Progress to you dear.
As he leaves this valley the sun rises on a new day.
