23 Comments on I Really Like Jazz

  1. I started listening to jazz (contemporary jazz) in the 90’s, pretty much the same time when actual song writers went extinct. The couple of dozen concerts or so that I’ve been to since then have all been the same genre.

The best musicians, bar none, are jazz musicians, mostly because they are not constrained by nonsensical lyrics.

If you have a sirius/xm subscription, go to Watercolors, it’s like joga for the mind.

  2. Here’s a question for the group, when was the last time you bought a music CD to listen to? Bonus question, which artist or group?

It’s probably been 20 years for me, maybe longer. My current car doesn’t even have a CD player installed.

Several years back, I found a website that offers songs to download for 12 cents a piece. I have about 300 songs on my phone, which I sometimes listen to at gym while on the stairmaster or rowing machine.

  4. ” I sometimes listen to at gym”

We attend church on the week ends as a couple. I attend church early in the morning six days a week at the gym. It’s a time for me to clear my mind and focus on what’s important. The cool thing for me these days is everyone in he damn place is wearing earbuds. So I’m not impolite when I don’t answer them back. At first it bothered me. Now I value it. That’s my time. And music in my head would screw that up. That’s just me. Carry on.

  5. ^^^ Yeah, I get it.

Even though retired I hit the gym early as well.

When you make it a habit, there is no internal negotiation or equivocation; you go.

My gym music complements my workout, it calms, soothes, and motivates, but I can see it as a distraction for weights, not so much for cardio, which is basically keeping the heart rate up for an extended time.

  6. I like a variety of different types of jazz. The jazz these guys are playing in the video is as close to my favorite as I’ve heard.

I’m partial to brass; saxophone is my favorite.

  7. @Diogenes – If you’re studio is doing the production audio (etc.) for musical groups, how can we find out about you/them? I’ve given up on all the music streamers (Spotify, Amazon, Pandora, etc.) but continue to buy mp3’s at various sites. Maybe a simple add w/link here?

  8. I bought “The Essential Hank Snow” and “Every Great Motown Hit of Marvin Gaye” for $1 each at the thrift store a couple weeks ago.
I got 3 classical music CDs there a couple of months ago, $1 each.
