Ben Carson, the only Republican to have once threatened the lead of Donald J. Trump in national polls, said on Wednesday he saw no path forward and would skip a debate on Thursday in his hometown of Detroit, signaling an end to his candidacy after paltry performances in the nominating contests.
Stopping short of suspending his campaign, Mr. Carson said he would provide more details in a speech on Friday, but after his dismal showing in the Super Tuesday states, his campaign is effectively over.
A retired pediatric brain surgeon of world renown, Mr. Carson long held Republicans’ favor with an uplifting biography and a quiet manner that belied his strafing critiques of President Obama and liberalism, which delighted grass-roots conservatives.
a good and honorable man. Sadly, that will not translate into a “win” in these dark days. Better to bow out now than have a rabid mad dog like Hillary and her war room thugs character assassinate yo across the country.
If he began his campaign by promising to lobotomize every liberal in the USA he would be in the lead right now.
“lobotomize every liberal” – kind of redundant isn’t it? I mean aren’t they already lobotomized? – that’s why they’re liberal.
I hope Mr.Trump will find a position for him in his administration.
A good man, a brilliant and gifted surgeon, but not necessarily the man that is needed to put this country back on its feet.
A good man, and his dressing-down of 0bama a few years ago will stand as a memorable event. I would love to see him as Surgeon General, or to have his voice heard on at least health issues.
Too bad. I hope the Republican President gives him an important job in the administration. Don’t lose his talents!
Carson was one of my favorite candidates, but I could tell after the first Republican debate that he stood no chance of competing in the circus. Quiet and measured just does not stand a chance on the same stage as Trump, Cruz, Christie, Rubio or Bush.
Direct of Health and Human Services in the least
Let him get the FDA under control,
And let him arm twist (a skill he has slowly learned in the race) the drug companies to allow a lot more experimental trials on volunteers that have terminal diseases.
If I was staring a dirt nap in the face and there was something that had a non zero chance of working I would like the option of trying it.
I trust him.
Enough to lay down and let him dig around in my brain if he told me it was necessary.
Too bad this is not the kind of world where could laud a man like him with our highest office.
Surgeon general of course…
At least now his talents won’t go to waste.
A note from Carson’s campaign manager:

Never Fear, Mittens is Near!
What I hate most about a candidate and a failed run for office is the need for people to want to find a job for that person in government.
Just like Chris Christie doesn’t need to be the AG of the US– There are infinitely more qualified individuals for the job. Carson was a brilliant surgeon, but it doesn’t mean that he would be a great SG.
Our society is falling about at the seams. His entire life is an inspiration and testament to what used to be America and what made her great and his insight, wisdom and talents can be much more useful in any other place than government.
don’t say anything Ted ….. it’s a trap!
