“I used to be a guy who was on the left.” – Heavily Taxed Washington State Resident

Left-wing politicians wanted to build a railroad line and “other transportation solutions.” So what did they do? They slapped a heavy fee on people who owned cars.  A few roommates now have to choose between paying rent or paying the car tax. They’ve gotten an education in government abuse of its citizens living on the edge of solvency. They are now looking to vote differently.

“I feel like they don’t care,” Casey said. “Especially our attorney general and our governor. I used to be a guy who was on the left. But because of them, I just keep getting pushed further and further away. I have zero trust in our state government here in Washington. I know we have some great reps in places, but it’s hard to be great when you have an attorney general who only cares about his pocket … I can tell you that I’ve lost all faith in the left in this state. They’ve lost my vote, my roommate’s vote, and my girlfriend’s vote in my household. I hope that’s a trend.”

“As things changed in this state, and jobs, taxes and prices … I’ve been pushed into being more conservative,” he added.

  1. License tabs have gotten expensive enough in the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett area that local politicians are suggesting that people can make monthly payments for their cars tabs if they can’t pay for them up front. Isn’t that generous of them?

  2. Only problem with *some* folks like this is when they move to Red States. They never “make the connection” between the bad policies that made them move and “Democrats being Democrats” wherever you go…and just keep making the same voting mistake over and over….

  3. And yet while all these things were happening you kept voting Democrat. Sounds like the policies finally hit you hard enough to make you wince and you’ve finally seen the light. Well, I suspect you haven’t actually come around and if this car tax was dropped you’d be back voting Democrat in a second.

  4. Here is another problem – “it was discovered Sound Transit opted to use an outdated method to calculate the fees”.
A public agency is using whatever method it wants to set “car tab fees”, otherwise known as taxes.
“Lawmakers have been scrambling to fix it ever since.”
Sure they have! It was an accident that the language in the law was just vague enough to allow the agency to set its’ own rates. Yeah, sure it was. Just ask my girl friend Morgan Fairchild. She’ll tell you it was an accident, yeah sure, that’s the ticket.

Yeah. That’s the same problem with ‘some’ ISIS fighters, ‘some’ MS-13 members, ‘some’ whatevers. If only they’d do the ‘right’ things, none of the good people inviting them to ‘the table’ would ever look so evil.

I’m not sure I get your point.
I was giving a *little* bit of slack to acknowledge that some (okay, A FEW) Democrats eventually DO have the ability to “snap out of it”/”wake up” once they’re out of their Leftist bubble, and end up leading politically less-destructive lives. I’ve know a few – emphasis on A FEW – so I wanted to acknowledge that. THE SAME DOES NOT HOLD for MS-13 and ISIS, etc….

The point being: ISIS, MS-13, Communists, “good” people, create “challenges” where they are invited (no “scare” quotes) to participate in an endeavor that they can weaponize. Were such threat neutralized, before people of “questionable” intent were allowed to “take a turn at the wheel”, there would be no harm. Neutralize the threat by denying participation to newcomers, although that will be a seriously difficult line to hold. Or neutralize the threat by denying it to the current “trustworthy” regime, and all that may follow.
