A little known fact of the Cuban Revolution is that President Batista was overthrown by middle class urban revolutionaries and students opposed to his regime as much as by the Castro brothers and Che Guevara. When these opponents of Batista tried to create a democracy, they were either murdered or fled to the United States. Fidel Castro was undoubtedly a communist long before he organized his rebels in the Sierra Maestra. Thousands of men and women were killed for opposing the communist government that Castro imposed on Cuba. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Castro and Guevara wanted the Russians to attack the United States with nuclear weapons. Tens of millions of citizens would have been killed if they had control of the Russian missiles. The Cubans living under communism won’t be able to read a true history of their country under the Castro Brothers until they are freed from the dictatorship that makes them literate but oppressed. Evidently, Bernie Sanders has never read a book about all of this misery.
