I’d Describe It as “Mountain High”

A 10-foot statue of rock n’ roll queen Tina Turner was unveiled Saturday in the rural Tennessee community where she grew up — before becoming a Grammy-winning singer, an electrifying stage performer, and one the world’s most recognizable and popular entertainers.

The statue was revealed during a ceremony at a park in Brownsville, located about an hour drive east of Memphis. The city of about 9,000 people is near Nutbush, the community where Turner went to school as a child. As a teen, she attended high school just steps from where the statue now stands. More

  1. I am continually amazed that Tina Turner took a CCR hit song like Proud Mary and made it her own. I’m actually partial to Tina Turner’s version myself.

  2. Well, the statue isn’t her, and thankfully, I don’t have to look at it. I’ll just keep my memory of her incredible energy, spirit and warmth.

Also, IMO, the older she got, the better she got. She was a rare “showman.”

  3. I love watching her Blu Ray Concerts on my Home Theater Rig at Full volume. She knew how to put on a show.

TINA would have HUMILIATED The P.O.S. who did this, and all involved.

Pathetic DEI “artist” like the 2 turds that did the BARKY & MOOCH white house portraits.

  4. Ah what are you going to do? At the end of the day she belonged to us. Not where she came from and certainly not to Ike the woman beater. An awesomely talented woman who’s legs went all the way to the ground. Best legs ever. A very talented woman.

  5. Ah, but was inside or outside Nutbush city limits?!

It may be awful, but I’m certain the artist didn’t intend to offend. It’s probably more a matter of how much money the committee had to spend and he’s who they could afford.

  6. BB — True, yes. But we’ve all seen pretty lame public art and I think part of the contract is that the artist always has sole ownership of his/her expression/interpretation of the commissioned artwork.

  7. remember that horrible “thing” that was a bronze tribute to MLK Jr? It was a pair of arms/hands holding what looked like dog poo where his head should have been. I’m sure the artist didn’t even install it before his last payment had been cashed.
