Ideas?

sevendaysvermont-

Last January, Mayor Miro Weinberger announced that the City of Burlington would be looking for a new flag design. The current version was designed by eighth-grader Cara Wick in 1990, and that flag has proudly waved above city buildings ever since.

Yesterday, Burlington City Arts announced that it will be accepting submissions for a new design through October 15. A small committee of local residents, selected by BCA, will review them. And then the public gets to vote on the finalists between October October 20 and November 17.

What are desirable flag qualities? According to the press release, “a flag should be so simple a child could draw it from memory.” There should be no lettering or seals; there should be “meaningful symbolism.” It should go without saying that symbols and images alluding to drugs or illicit substances and activities are off limits.

As Tim Gunn would say, “Designers, make it work.” As RuPaul would say, “Don’t fuck it up.”

!snip!

Notice the subtle message?

RuPaul does not participate in illicit activities.

  1. Since we can’t discriminate (except against conservatives) the flag should consist of:

*Communist red background (also for abortion rights)
    *Rainbow border (border partially open)
*Black power fist holding an upside-down Christian cross with its middle finger sticking up
    *Pink circle for AIDS with
*Green swastika in the middle for environmental socialism and marijuana advocacy

That should appease just about every group living there.

  2. How about a pair of rifles crossed in the middle. Pick your color(s).

Don’t be too hard on ol’ Vermont. Best gun laws in the land.

Texas is downright tyrannically oppressive compared to Vermont. Why I scoff at anyone suggesting Texas has the best gun rights in the land.

    Not even close.

  3. I don’t go there- too many people and sprawl.

How about a red flag with a woodchuck wearing a burka, saying ‘thank you.’
Or maybe a dairy cow with a hobo satchel over it’s shoulder, a tear in it’s eye, hitch hiking out of state

  4. We visit Burlington a couple times a year. About 10 years ago I would’ve suggested Commie Red with pot plant insignia. Today a simple white flag of surrender is sufficient.

  5. Bernie’s Lake Champlain house with the peninsula empty of the other homes?
He plans on buying them and razing them so……

Or maybe all three of Bernie’s homes?

Or just the word, “LEFT” on field of red.
