If you’re hit by a car in China, you’re as good as dead – IOTW Report

If you’re hit by a car in China, you’re as good as dead

It is all too common in China, and some other Asian countries, to put the car in reverse and hit your victim a second, third, fourth (whatever it takes) time, to insure they are dead.

Why?

Because of the way the law works it is better for the person to be dead than crippled. If they’re crippled you pay custodial care for the rest of their life. If they’re dead, it’s a one time low payout, like $30,000.

China’s courts are extremely lenient to drivers who clip people. Why wouldn’t they. They are extremely overcrowded.

  1. Well, here’s the problem . . . how many times do you think you can throw your Dongfeng Fengxing Jingyi Cross from reverse to drive before the transmission falls out?

  2. I’ve been there. The respect for human life is next to nothing. The streets are like a non-stop demolition derby.
The other side of the story is the prevalence of professional accident victims. You remember the MASH episode? They say that a westerner should never drive a car there, and if your taxi is involved in an accident you should get out and run away before the authorities get there because they will try to blame you.
