IKEA offers to buy back furniture for resale

(Reuters) – People tired of their flat pack IKEA dressers, drawers, cabinets and tables will now be able to sell them back to the furniture retailer for resale in its stores as secondhand.

The world’s biggest furniture group, said on Tuesday the “Buy Back” initiative was part of its aim to become “a fully circular and climate positive business by 2030.”

Under the scheme customers will get vouchers to spend at IKEA stores, the value of which depends on the condition of the furniture they are selling back.

The initiative will be promoted in a campaign running from Nov. 24 through to Dec. 3, though the offer will continue after that date. read more

  1. IKEA SUCKS

NOWHERE ELSE CAN YOU WALK FOR MILES AMONG THE MORBIDLY OBESE AND BRATTY CHILDREN, WRITE DOWN THE ITEM NUMBER, FIND IT IN THE WAREHOUSE, TIE IT TO THE TOP OF YOUR CAR, GET IT HOME, ASSEMBLE USING BROKEN ENGLISH INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND, ONLY TO FIND THAT YOU MISSED STEP 17 OF 237, THEN DISASSEMBLE, TOSS IT ON THE FIREPIT AND GET DRUNK!!!

  2. The IKEA furniture I bought over 30 years ago that is excellent. They can’t buy that back from me, I will keep it until I’m gone.

Most things I’ve bought from them have been worth what I paid, but the older stuff was primo.

Do shoppers suck these days? For sure, they are not the same as society of yore, but that’s true everywhere, that’s one reason why retail is history.

  3. That’s strange…The “As Is” section of Atlanta Ikea, where they sell returns and damages, has pretty much been closed down. But ghe store is right next to Ga Tech, so I imagine a lot of students will be selling their stuff back at the end of the school year.

  4. Pro-Tip: If you ever want to quickly dismantle particle board furniture, drop it on a corner. The whole thing will collapse into a pile and you can use a stair as a lever and kick all the pieces in half to make them fit into any trash receptacle.

Pro-Tip 2: leave it out in the rain. It will swell and all fold up like newspaper.

  5. IKEA has an insane return policy – they’ll take things back for up to a year. A temporarily employee filled an apartment with IKEA furniture for 9 months and they came and picked everything up and he was fully refunded.

  6. I’d build a bookshelf out of 1X12 yellow pine & cinder blocks before I’d buy ikea particleboard junk.
Plus, after the book burning, you can still use the lumber & blocks!

  7. The computer desk Mr. Illustr8r is currently sitting at is an IKEA purchase from 22 years ago. Still looks good. It’s the right shape and size for two monitors and a Wacom tablet. We have several bookcase and a stool from that same era. Their excellent graphic design suckers me into buying kitchen items, towels and duvet covers. I can’t pass up a good pattern or pretty color!

    The crowds though…exhausting.

  8. A very ingenious design, IKEA brick and mortar is.

After you walk in, you are directed to go through the entire store, ‘by design’, then get to the register.

Made of particle board, not even decent plywood!

Was there once 25 years ago and never went back…

Give me well made Amish furniture from good ole German Penn.
