Illegal immigrants are preparing to ask President Obama to pardon some 750,000 Dreamers, saying such a move is their last, best hope to stave off what they fear will be a wave of deportations once Donald Trump takes the Oval Office.
Community leaders have planned a rally in New York on Wednesday to make the request.
“Millions of law abiding undocumented immigrants are fearful of what will happen when the new Administration takes control in January,” the group of New York state lawmakers and immigration advocates said in a statement announcing the rally. “However, President Obama has the power of pardons that he can use to protect all DACA enrollees.”
“Millions of law abiding undocumented immigrants…” WRONG! Illegals broke the law when they crossed the border into our country uninvited, illegally. Hence the name Illegal Alien. If they truly did nothing wrong, then why do they need pardons?
Have those 750,000 alien violators been legally charged – indicted – with a crime yet? No? Then just what exactly do they want pardoned?
I’ve begun calling these people “alien violators” to pull the rug out from under multi-culti amnesty fans who insist on whining about how wrong the term “illegal alien” is because only actions can be illegal and not people.
So, my long version is “alien violators of immigration laws” and the short version is “alien violators”.
If Obama does this it will simply mean at the first black American President put the needs of Hispanic Illegal Aliens ahead of the black population of the United States and it has to be played that way by the conservatives. His legacy is tattered enough that I suspect he won’t do this.
Can a President actually pardon someone who is not a citizen of the United States?

@Uncle Al: Courts have ruled that a President can pardon someone who has not actually been charged (ex: Ford’s pardon of Nixon), but refer to my question above.
Pardons cannot negate future acts. 0bama can pardon all of them 1/20/2017 for being in the country illegally up to that date. Continued illegal presence in the country 1/21/2017 will be unpardoned and grounds for deportation.

Good Lord. Someone actually allowed that to go to print? They are not ‘law abiding’, they are breaking the law by being here. There are a lot of things that I want too, but just because I want them doesn’t mean I should get them.
If they didn’t follow the rules to get here, send them home. No questions asked. It really is that simple. And no, I don’t care about breaking up families. The children of illegals born here should not be citizens in the first place.

How can Obama pardon anyone that isn’t a citizen? And even if he could, it would only be for the crime of entering the country illegally. It wouldn’t make them citizens and they would still have to leave. So tired of this BS.

As far as I am concerned, if he can’t name then, he can’t pardon them. A pardon is for a specific person or persons. Not prosecuting for a law that has since been repealed is one thing (and is not the case), but blanket blind pardons is a no-go to me.
How would they know who was here illegally before the pardon was issued? As was pointed out above, a pardon cannot be issued before the offence, so what would stop people from coming over (before next January) and retroactively claiming the pardon?
Reg: They had no intent of violating the law. They just crossed the border by gross negligence. No prosecutable offence.
Every american ever arrested or in jail should be furious. When I broke the law i lost my car, my job and my home. For a lot less than entering a country when i wasn’t supposedto. When they use “the children” guilt trip it is the childrens parents fault not ours.
