I’m Perplexed… Cops Shoot White People Too?

We showed 2 videos earlier today of cops shooting black men (I’m not passing judgement on whether they were justified or not.) Here’s one that won’t be leading the nightly news.

CopBlock

The original justification for Dylan Noble’s shooting was that they believed he was armed and that he made “suicidal statements” while rushing at the officers. Therefore, they were in “fear for their lives,” another go-to excuse for police.

The fact he was clearly unarmed and already laying on the ground having been shot twice before they finished executing him with the two shots shown on this new video, pretty clearly shows he was no threat to those officers, regardless of what happened prior to that. It’s pretty hard, if not impossible, not to make a case for this as outright and intentional murder.

At best this would be a case of “contempt of cop,” based on their statements that he wasn’t following their orders. In spite of that, this video pretty clearly shows that he was not in any realistic way a threat to them at the time that they killed him and he certainly was not charging at them.

As has been pointed out numerous times on the CopBlock Network, video from body cameras or dash cameras is still not an adequate solution to prevent or even provide evidence of police brutality due to the lack of access to that footage for the public.

The video is only released promptly when it benefits the cops. Other times it has to be fought for tooth and nail and often takes years for that video evidence to be pried from the grip of the Good Cops protecting the Bad Apples responsible for the weekly, if not daily, incidents of police violence.

  1. His hands were blocking a clear shot.

Also, he could have crawled and crawled and crawled and maybe eventually got close enough to poke at one of the cops shoes or something. Might have gotten blood on it.

    Clearly a threat.

  2. Sorry. The video was not clear enough to tell me anything. And I’ll always give the cops the benefit of the doubt, initially. But I agree that any video recorded by law enforcement should be made public immediately. It does not impede their investigation nor unfairly charge the officers involved.

  3. I am not familiar with CA criminal procedure laws, but give the DA a little while to review it, it may not be up to the cops as to when the body cams will be released. We had a police involved shooting here last month which was captured on housing project surveillance cameras. This was not released right away either until the ADA could review it. In any event it has to go to the grant jury.

I also watched the video and I won’t commit whether or not it was a justified shoot based on what I saw. But I agree, it doesn’t look good.

  4. Hispanic lives don’t matter either I guess

On Thursday, June 30, Deputy U.S. Marshals were involved in a line-of-duty shooting incident in Douglas, WY, while attempting to apprehend fugitive Jasen Scott Ramirez, who was wanted on drug charges. During the attempted arrest, Ramirez was shot. He was immediately transported to a local medical facility where he later died of his injuries.
