I won’t quite be as cute as her… but close.
Newser-
It’s not every day you get a 200% tip. For Hawaiian waitress Cayla Chandara, that was only the beginning. Chandara, 22, struck up a conversation with a friendly Australian couple last week at the Thai restaurant where she works in Waikiki. They got to talking and she mentioned her 80-hour work weeks, student loan, and how she could barely make ends meet. “I told them I moved here for school, but I was kind of in a little bit of debt and I couldn’t go back to school, because I couldn’t afford it,” Chandara tells KHON. The couple paid their $200 tab and left. Then Chandara got the surprise of her life: a $400 tip. Stunned, Chandara set out to find the generous customers.
“I never get tipped that big,” she says. “I had to say thank you.” The pair had mentioned where they were staying, so Chandara raced to their hotel. She followed up with a thank-you card, dessert, and flowers, and figured that was the end of it. Then the next day she got an even bigger surprise:

If my waitress spilled her tale of woe to me, she’d be lucky to get a 15% tip. I’m there to eat, not be your therapist.
I just finished a lovely Rack of Lamb at Home. Happy Easter all.
But when I go to a restaurant with the wife, family, and friends I always treat the wait staff with respect. But I don’t want to listen to their of woe. I don’t give a shit about the waiter’s debt,
he/her working 80 hours a week, he/her having to quit college. All that crap! That gold digger just nailed a super rich stupid fucking Australian.
How is that different from panhandling?
I mean, for Pete’s sake, why not carry a cardboard sign that reads “Dead broke. Will do my job if you pay me more than you need to.”
Dianny. You beat me to it. Happy Easter. You’re the best!
If a waitress smiles and shows some cleavage…i leave a bigger tip.
I want entertainment when i dine out.
I know….i’m a pig. Oink!
The best waitress we ever had was at a small diner in Delaware. After we placed our order, the food just seemed to appear on the table. The dirty dishes disappeared. Coffee cups magically refilled themselves. We never saw her come and go from the table and our conversation was never interrupted. This server was amazing. We looked for her after the meal to take her home with us to be our nannie, but we never saw her again. Never forgot her, either.
She’s getting a super useful degree: liberal arts. 🙄
kindess and sincerity pays.
We hear stories like this all the time on cruise ships from the stewards. Except, they tell you how many kids they have and how difficult it is for them to work on a ship and be away from their family. They try to make you feel guilty that you are enjoying your life while they have to make your bed and clean the toilet. So, we don’t tip extra unless I asked them to do something special for me.
I want my waiter to leave me alone unless I look for them. I am paying for a meal with friends and you are not one of them. You can smile and take my order and do the things you are supposed to do, but don’t ask me about my life and I won’t ask you about yours.
They should have asked what she was studying first. Liberal arts? What a waste.
Is it me or do waiters wait until you just shoved a massive fork full of food in into your mouth to ask if everything is ok?
If she’s going to study Liberal Arts, then the Aussies just wasted their money.
Let’s review here:
She has financial issues but moves to Hawaii for school
She serves at a restaurant where dinner for two is over $200 (tip would have been~$30)
Aussies drop $200 for Thai food and then $400 more for tip
Shtory shtinks
I’m with Dianny on this one. I’da booted the scrunt.
Fake news? I betcha she’s freelancing as a hooka.
Waitress?
Tip?
Don’t be none of that at Popeye’s!
