Indiana residents may get to carry handguns in public without a license

AMN:

The Republican-controlled House agreed Monday to flip the process for who is allowed to carry a handgun in public places in Indiana.

Instead of requiring eligible Hoosiers to obtain a handgun carry permit from the police, the House voted 65-31 to allow any handgun owner to automatically have their gun with them at all times without the police background check, fingerprinting and fees currently required by Indiana statutes.

If House Bill 1369 becomes law, Indiana would be the 18th state to enact so-called “constitutional carry,” based on the idea that the federal and state constitutions bar any impediments to the right to bear arms. more

  1. that is ONE good thing about living in Michigan. Pretty decent CCW and open carry laws. Indiana is one-up on us regarding Covid shutdowns though, thanks to our current governor Caitlyn Jenner.

  2. I was a permitted carrier in VA for nearly 20 years…. moved to SC last year and found out not only do they NOT embrace open carry but they no longer acknowledge my permit. Took the required class last weekend…. $100 and mailed all the paperwork (fingerprints, test scores, application, shooting scores) along with a cashier’s check of $50 (nonrefundable) to SLED on Monday. Was told to not inquire for 90 days due to wuflu… I guess SLED got da bug….. should have checked out the firearms laws before settling here. FFS!

  3. I agree about the “why is this legislation even necessary” comments but I’m glad to be a resident of Indiana. Once this is passed (even by the feckless Holcomb) only 32 states to go!
