Interesting Movie

Burt Lancaster plays a man named Ned who shows up at an affluent house he hasn’t been to in quite awhile. He’s in swim trunks, and he tells the long lost friends he is there to take a dip.

When he gets out, he has an idea. He mapped out in his mind how he can do a pool crawl, making his way back to his house.

As he goes from house to house we get snippets of this enigmatic man’s life, ending with him making it back home.

They don’t make movies like this anymore. It’s a straightforward character study, but it very bizarre in an understated way.

  1. I love Burt Lancaster body of work. I watch anything he’s ever done and will watch this when I get a chance. However. hes been tagged as the biggest communists/socialist ever to exist in Hollywierd. He straight up refused to ever do a movie with John Wayne. Google

  2. Ha Ha every time I burp out loud I always turn it into Burrrrrt Lancaster!
Childish? Maybe. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. For some reason it doesn’t seem to amuse my wife… or kids, or anybody else for that matter I guess, including ya’ll. Oh well. Makes me laugh!

  3. Saw this movie years ago. Great movie. A spiritual, philosophical and psychological journey a man takes who has wasted his life and finds he has no way to redeem himself, especially in the afterlife which the movie may be portraying. Really well done movie. Burt Lancaster was excellent. Think I’ll watch it again.

  4. I’m a sucker for film Noir

The best movie Lancaster ever did was I Walk Alone. 1947.

The best movie Wayne ever did was The Searchers. Last I heard they still study it at UCLA film school.

  5. All the great roles that John Wayne had, and he wins Best Actor Oscar for True Grit. Don’t get me wrong, I like True Grit. (My eyes hurt lookin’ for the chicken)

  6. The movie is based on a John Cheever novel and was required reading in our high school, followed by viewing the movie. It takes a dark turn about mid-way through and has a sad ending, for those who’ve never seen it.

  7. Saw The Swimmer many years ago, struck me then as very sad. Burt sure had some great chops. There’s a couple things about these old time Hollywood guys being dems, the first you gotta wonder if they’d get behind millions pouring across our southern border and genital mutilation of pre teens…I bet a lot of them wouldn’t.

And most didn’t shove this crap in our faces. Then again Hollywood is a weird fucking place.

As for some good Burts, I like Valdez is Coming and someone mentioned The Train, another excellent yarn. One of his last flicks was Atlantic City, a good character study.

  8. Most underrated Burt movie:

The Sweet Smell of Success. Great, great dialogue. Although Burt revealed his inner lefttard by making a Conservative news columnist the heel
