iOTW micro get-togethers – IOTW Report

iOTW micro get-togethers

I love hearing this stuff –

I was heading west for a family function last month and was blessed to be received by the Wakemans in a miniature iOTWr gathering…  I am hard pressed to describe just how gracious and kind they are (they even put me up for the night!).  Like the moron that I am, I never brought my camera in from the truck and failed to get a “group” shot of us.  I am sure we will see each other again in the not so distant future and I will make it a point to get the photo.  We had a lot of fun visiting, eating and drinking.  Truly a treat!

But the story does not end there.  As I was heading west from SC to KS I also had an opportunity to catch up with Tim and Erik.  We spent quite some time together chatting, enjoying each other’s fine cigars (the Wakeman’s refrained) and drinking.  I did get someone to snap a photo or three of us at a table and my phone undoubtedly refused to send it to Mr. Fur.  As a result, I had to wait until I got the image(s) off the phone and on the ‘puter in order to resend it.

A twofer!  Two excellent musicians, a wonderful artist and plenty of well thought out, conservative views.

At any rate, It was a great trip and I feel as though I have made some life long friends.

That is wonderful to hear, that the site forges good friendships.

And I can certainly vouch that the Wakemans are wonderful people!

Anyone else have similar stories? Send them in!

  1. Darn it! Whose WHO, I need a scorecard ova here!

    GREAT little story…

My highlight of the year, in a SHITTY year, was seeing Claudia, Anymouse, Charlie WalksonWater, Lil Morphin Annie and P Henry…in that order.

    It’s true, really.

IF you can get on the road? Just do it…as they say…

    What, no pixellation!? :>O

@C – I love hearing this TOO. It is a very rewarding thing and it was like being Homer or something on a Journey and being a Seeker of People, IOTWrer’s that is…and not knowing what to expect was surreal.

Like opening a Christmas present you did not expect…

  2. …I kind of prefer to be sight unseen, after seeing this more than ever. Those suit-wearing fellows wear them well, and it puts me to shame to see them so.

Because I stopped getting my suit adjusted when we got too old to get invited to weddings, so it’s kind of a sausage wrapper fit that the mortician will have to split the shirt and jacket down the back so it doesn’t look completely ridiculous in the box before they clamp it shut, forever, mercifully, blotting from the sight of living man my poor fashion choices.

Better in my case to exist only in the imagination of the casual reader, because the reality is both grim and silly indeed, like a death mask of Bozo the Clown or the Tomb of Fire Marshall Bill, a veritable caricature of the Blue Collar Man stretched over a lanky frame with too much belly, with no redeeming feature other than perhaps the fact that my nose has somehow maaged to survive the decades unbroken…

  3. Great photo, it strongly implies character, intelligence and camaraderie.

IMO, it would be difficult to top that.

    @Supernightshade—
    I don’t even own a suit, literally.

  4. @C- do you have enough pics to do a collage…of sorts?

    A Pixellated Collage of IOTWr… :>O

@SNS – you were only ‘this’ close from us invading your ass! Next time…when within your perimeter again…

“…like a death mask of Bozo the Clown or the Tomb of Fire Marshall Bill…”

Makes it more of a challenge now…and I dig challenges.

Posting like this as we do all in an anonymous way, we have to interpret and put the face with the words…like any GREAT book.

  5. I am sorry that I am not so eloquent as Tanggor, but it really was a fun trip. So far, I haven’t met an Iotwr’r that wasn’t (isn’t?) wonderful….. PHenry, Beachmom, Tanggor, The Wakemans, Erik and Tim (not to mention some lovely lurkers and spouses). Perhaps next year I’ll broaden my horizons…

  6. I still say it’s the prison psychologist seated at left, the warden is standing and the guy on the right is the head of maintenance….who apparently I worked for in prison.

They’re all looking at me with the “da fuk dis nigga just say?”
face…. after I’ve just explained why I should be let out early.

  7. I know, right, Aaron Burr? Give it a sepia tone, put a six-shooter and a couple of whiskey glasses on that table, and it looks like Hunter the Kid just got thrown under the jail by some tough hombres.

  8. Warden: “Son, the law is the law, I’m sorry, but you need to make your peace with the Lord.”

    Psychologist: “Such a shame, really.”

Maintenance: “You never told us where you hid that pie.”

…did you see the unbleached starfish guy too while you were out and about?

    …because you’re kinda sounding like him…

  10. Well, Mr. Pinko and I turned a 2016 primary war into a lifelong friendship. He even came down to.my Wildwood condo for the January Trump rally. That was a great time and Mr. Pinko was very generous! It was an awesome time for all! He is a great guy! Bonus: he brought Toots Sweet and Frankie Hudak (professional comedian)! It was a couple of days for me that I will never forget.

  11. Hey we in the Pacific NW were first ( thank you illustr8)
You all have to do it, meet ups are great.
It’s not that hard to do. Step out side of your house and meet them. Big Fur Hat can put you in touch with each other.
Even if you can’ meet iOTW folks, do this. You will have a blast.

  13. @Erik – thanks! Crackerbaby reminds me of someone I know?
Actually? You ALL remind me of someone I know…and NO, its NOT a prison psychologist…

@SNS – ” …did you see the unbleached starfish guy too while you were out and about?

    …because you’re kinda sounding like him…”

  15. I love the photo! Handsome conservative men! The IOTWer on the right has a very satirical and skeptical look in his eyes. 😁👍🏻

I like reading about the IOTWers’ get togethers! Thank you for sharing.

@Brad, you are right! He does look like Sam Elliott.

  16. @Aaron Burr – oh, I know whereabouts yr’re are. And will find you…you said something about meeting at a lakefront marina club in the ‘Southwest’…
