Is Mount Rushmore Next?

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” -George Orwell 1984

On Monday’s episode of The View, Meghan McCain questioned the recent removal of a Theodore Roosevelt statue, seeing it as a potential slippery slope in editing America’s history.

The American Museum of Natural History in New York City on Sunday announced it was removing the statue of Roosevelt outside its entrance. The decision was made not because of Roosevelt himself but because of the Native American and Black figures depicted in the work flanking his horse.

McCain pushed back on this decision, saying, “We are entering a phase right now that I am not entirely comfortable with when we are going to completely eliminate all people who had anything to do in American history with something that’s problematic.”

  1. Oh gee, little piglet is “not entirely comfortable” with the anarchists’ rampage !

If she were “entirely outraged” at the epic attack on her country, I might relent on my hatred for her and her traitorous sire.

  2. I’m willing to bet there are snipers watching that place. It’s ideal for snipers. Trump just signed an EO for protecting what’s left of our monuments.

  4. As Edmund Burke said more than 200 years ago – Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.
Yes, let’s remove everything that reminds us of where we have been because God forbid that we should actually learn from our mistakes.
Nobody is perfect. We had Him 2000 years ago to remind us of that, and we shouldn’t forget in the rush to cancel everything

  5. After I saw the renewed call to destroy the Confederate monument at Cold Stone Mountain, I thought what’s next, Mt Rushmore?

    yeah

Fact is the mob will never be satisfied. Like the innocent poet in Julius Caesar, Cinna, who’s only crime was having the same name as one of those who killed Caesar and was himself killed.

We are all Cinnas. Who was the old Soviet who said, show me the man and I’ll show you the crime? That’s where we’re at now.

  6. @Da’Kat – They both used it, in slightly different words, but Burke was 100 years earlier, so I used his. Kurt Vonnegut also used it, and I could probably find many more similar quotes. I am not meaning to argue, we are both right, and the Santayana quote may not have been inspired by Burke, but they both convey the same.
There may have been someone before Burke, and if someone can find that one, I will use it in the future.

  7. Da’Kat and others if anyone ever wants to read a real good book that explains the liberal mindset and worldview you need to read The Last Puritan by George Santayana. It’s a must read even if it is about a 100 year old book, I found a copy at my local public library and it can be found on Amazon as well. The reason I read it in the first place is that it was one of Russell Kirk’s recommended books to read. GK Chesterton is also worth reading even though most of his writing was also from 100 years ago.

  8. James Earl Fraser was the sculptor of that GREAT piece of artwork, and he was one of THEE best we had.

There is a bust of TR (same artist) in NYC but I am not going to say where it is! I trust YOUS but not them…

Also, there is Sagamore NHS in Oyster Bay and his birthplace ‘brownstone’ residence down on 16th street. That is way more common knowledge, lets see…

  9. Anyone looking for Theodore Roosevelt needs to spent a few hours at the Roosevelt Hotel at 45 East 45th Street, New York City, State of New York. It has many paintings and photographs of TR, including a plaque by Laura Gardin Fraser “The Long, Long Trail.” Also, a trip to Oyster Bay on Long Island is a very unforgettable experience.
