Isn’t It Time To Go On Zulu Time?

Science writer James Gleick proposes that we do away with confusing time zones and simply have one global time, Coordinated Universal Time (U.T.C.) or Zulu Time.  Computers for the military and aviation already use it.

In  The Untied States we’d have to get use to having lunch at 5:00 pm and dinner at 10:00 pm  and work from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Our clocks wouldn’t change when we travel and we’d do away with daylight savings.

  1. Why don’t we all get conscripted into the army too? That way our betters…I mean our elected leaders could tell us when to live and when to die,and what hill to do it on!

  2. I do not subscribe to this thinking. Military and aviation use ZT because of their world wide operations. Instant communications make this necessary. Most folks are not jet-setting and don’t cross time zones with any frequency. Who wants to have breakfast, dinner or supper at weird and arbitrary times. Lunch should occur at high noon or thereabouts. Midnight should be at 12:00 not 2400 hrs.

  3. Lazlo lives in Arizona, where we don’t put up with that bullshit.
Daylight savings time would be a valid idea if it saved money, or time.
    How about:
If it stays dark in the morning, it’s because our planet is tilted on its axis away from the sun. That is called Winter.
This is change, and it is good.
We adapt to the changes in seasons because that is how the world is.
    This makes us stronger.

  4. I’m an amateur radio operator – used to Zulu time. No big deal. (that being said, I also use Morse Code most of the time)
73, 88, and all that other stuff you probably don’t understand.

  6. @Doc – LOL – I hear you. My pups are pawing and whining at 3pm now. They don’t “get” the concept of Standard Time vs Daylight Time. It amazes me how well their internal clocks work. My little guy always lets me know when it’s bedtime (for him), too. He wants his last walk and his crate at 9pm, canine time.

  7. Time is illusive.
The Universe isn’t expanding (necessarily): time is diminishing.
We only feel it over great spans.

Let’s call when the Sun comes up – Sunrise.
And when the Sun sets – Sunset.

    Everything in between – Day.
    And everything after – Night.

Eliminates all the stupid bullshit that the Demonrats (Socialists) impose.

    izlamo delenda est …
