  1. Not sure what the purpose of that video was. Anyone?

Anyhoo, Tom Jones was sex on legs back in the day. Women threw their knickers at him on stage. Radiomattm and I saw him in concert in Vancouver in 2008 (when he was 67/68) and women were still throwing their knickers on stage.

  2. My Grandfather made a few suits for Jones many decades ago.
Whenever he was on TV he would make me watch with him.
I didn’t like him then, but a kept Grandpa company out of respect as he would push back the Lazy Boy and smoked a Cuban.

Bennett, Jones, Davis Jr, Dean Martin & Mohamed Ali, all remind me of him.

He never met Sinatra but he did make quite a few suits for Ali WAY BACK.

There were very few great tailors back then esp. in T.O.

Yes. My Grandfather made suits for Me & my Brother as well as My Mom & Dad. First Communion, Confirmation, Graduation etc.
They were the English Cut Slimming style back then.
Of course they were not the Miami Vice type style that everyone else had and wanted but they were rather the more classic look. Many Double breasted.

We still have a few as mementos (No longer fit us) but a very slim cousin wore one of the brown 3 pieces to my dad’s 75th about 8 years ago. We were in shock. (amazing)

He did some stuff for Kojak & & there was an episode of Star Trek where Kirk & Spock go to a mafia style planet & they are all wearing 3 piece suits with tommy guns. That type stuff.

in regards to Mohamed Ali, Google Ronald Reagan punches Mohamed Ali.

He was the Chief Designer for a company called “Lou Myles” and you could see Lou in pictures “fitting” Ali but the reality was that Lou owned the place & Vic (my grandpa) was the actual designer.

There is a certain look to the suits that i can tell which ones he may
have done. I don’t want to lie so I can’t say accurately.

He said, “he was built like a piece of stone.”

  4. I’m in agreement with General Malaise, Oh gawd, indeed. Maybe because I’m a guy I never cared much for Tom Jones or Englebert Humperdink either. The only thing worse is MacArthur Park by Richard Harris, a vastly overrated piece of crap song if there ever was one.

  5. We saw him in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. He put on a good show. Saw him in a interview after his wife passed away. He said he regretted cheating on her. Weird that he revealed that in an interview – as if to say sorry to the public for his adulterous ways. My favorite song by Tom is the Green, Green Grass of Home. My mother loved that song, it reminded her of my wayward brother.

  6. @geoff the aardvark: My mother recently passed away and left me her 2,000 LP album collection. I’d say she had every Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdink album they ever made. I sold over 500 albums at her estate sale – not a single Tom Jones or Humperdink album sold. People got a kick out of the record collection. What was left of the records, I split the collection up and donated among 5 charities in town.

  7. Thanks Kcir, what a wonderful piece of family history. Your grandfather was obviously very talented. Ali’s suit in that picture with Reagan is beautiful.

  8. I admit here that I am more of a heavy metal type, played the drums for years before my rotater cuff decided to wonk out. But, I just downloaded “The Best Of Tom Jones” last week unto my phone. Been listening almost non-stop. Good stuff. God broke the mold when he made Tom Jones. Still a badass @ 81 years old. I hope that I look as good as him at that age.
