A rented school bus traveling west to east across the bridge on Robert Parker Coffin Road left the bridge damaged at both ends. More

  1. Been across that bridge on many occasions. One lane traffic. Very quaint with low clearance. What an idiot not to heed the signs. The bridge can very easily be bypassed without much time involved. SMH. Long Grove has lost enough business without this crap. Used to like to visit . . . and it’s not because of the bridge. $$$ and noses too high.

  2. Anybody with a grand or great/great-great grandfather who were “bridge engineers” brought their workers, horse/mule-drawn wagons and saws to the site and built these covered bridges from the surrounding trees by the river or stream.

Didn’t know they did this in the Chicago area. My Dad’s father contracted out in Mississippi and died (eventually) from a fall.

Just one American story from 3 to 4 generations back when there were oil lamps and no electricity.

  3. If you don’t want your special bridge damaged a heavy steel I-beam ‘sizer’ a hundred feet before the bridge itself will stop that cold. Not difficult at all to strain out an 80,000 lb truck moving at speed.

If it don’t stop it, it will at least reduce the height and width to allowable maximums.

  4. Golfers? On a Saturday? On a school bus? Ignored GPS? Ignored signs?
Everything screams intentional (at least to me).
Have the driver and passengers pay for repairs AND fines!
Now, why were they using a school bus on a Saturday AND what about the damages to the school bus? They going to pay for that as well or will the tax payers be picking up that tab?
