It’s Earth Hour Tonight. Please Make Sure to Turn On Every Light You Own

PJM: It’s the 16th annual “Earth Hour” tonight. Wherever you are on this planet between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (local time) you’re supposed to turn off all your electric lights to “do something good for the planet.”

I suspect that the greens want us to get used to living in darkness. Whatever the reason, you will never see such an outpouring of preening, self-congratulatory chest-thumping on the part of insufferable green nincompoops for the rest of the year.

Turning off the Empire State Building lights or the lights on the Eiffel Tower will not, ever, in a million years, do anything to draw awareness to the cause of — what, exactly?

The reason for all this hullaballoo is a little fuzzy. Battling climate change is most often mentioned but also we’re preserving scarce resources and becoming more aware of the environment.

Very zen, you see.

  1. I already got a couple of spotted owls on the grill. And I’m going to make sure that I put all of my recyclables in the regular trash pin, that really drives me crazy.

  2. We really should have this at Christmas time, when a lot of electric meters are generally spinning much faster than the wind turbines supposedly providing the power.

  3. The conservative thinking I was raised with taught me to use all resources water, gas, food etc. with frugality. Use what you need, leave the rest. Having 8 siblings helped enforce that lesson 😉

  4. ,I stopped by a market on the way in to work last week and parked next to A Tesla with custom plates that read ERTHHUG. I figured some pink haired fat old lady owned it. Nope, professional guy in a biz suit. I couldn’t help myself. I asked him if he’d ever seen a Cobalt mine and what they do to the earth. Then I asked him if he knew how toxic those batteries are. Deer, Headlights. I walked away shaking my head. I very rarely, well never, confront some one like that, but the hypocrisy of ERTHHUG sent me right over the edge.

  5. One whole hour. Damn. Let’s see the green weenies go a month with no power. No refrigeration. No internet, TV, or cell phones. It’s a damned good thing that recent Coronal Mass Ejection was on the other side of the sun or we’d be back in the Dark Ages. Literally.

  6. not only did I turn every light in the house on but I plugged every space heater in, set the thermostats to 90. Then I turned the central air on and set it to 60. For good measure I turned the old quartz-halogen lamps on in the shop.

  7. If the libs were serious they would all put a bullet in their left ear, the planet would be saved, and we could go back to practicing PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) burning wood, and taking dominion over our planet the way God intended us to.

  8. @RIch
You are doing the recycle/ trash thing backwards. I throw all my gross trash in the recycle can. It would piss them off if it didn’t all get dumped in the same place.

  9. Only 27 more days and 4 more weeks until Earth Day on April 22nd. Woohoo, we’re all gonna die because of racism, greed and liberal/progtard hand wringing because they all say so and they have been wrong 100% of the time, that they have proclaimed the end of the world as we know it since 1970. It’s been 53 years and counting and yet humanity is still alive.

  10. I feel so embarrassed and backward. I heard about the virtue signal a few wears ago but forgot all about it until this morning looking here on IOTW report.

Thank you IOTW for reminding me of this important virtue signal, and thank you for reminding me after it’s too late to participate so I can suffer my private shame for another year before remedying the faux pas.
