CNNmoney: A Virginia judge has ruled that the woman at the center of Rolling Stone’s discredited story about an alleged frat house gang rape must testify as part of a lawsuit against the magazine.
The woman identified only as “Jackie” will be deposed on Thursday by attorneys representing Rolling Stone and Nicole Eramo, the University of Virginia administrator who is suing the magazine and the author of the now-retracted article, Sabrina Rubin Erdely.
Erdely’s 2014 piece, “A Rape On Campus,” featured Jackie’s graphic claim to have been raped by a group of fraternity members during her freshman year at UVA.
Eramo, an associate dean of students at UVA, is suing Rolling Stone and Erdely for defamation over what she says was an unfair portrayal of her as an insensitive campus bureaucrat in the story. She is seeking $7.85 million in damages.
The story unraveled after doubts about Jackie’s allegation surfaced. Police eventually said they found no evidence that the rape occurred, and an independent review conducted by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism found sweeping editorial failures on the part of Rolling Stone. MORE
Good
Why would her deposition be sealed?
Why isn’t she in jail?
Why isn’t she named?
Her name is everywhere on the net–Its Jackie Coakley.
Why only $7.85 million? She should ask for $50m. Really make it hurt
Good. Both the bint and Rolling Stone need to be sued to their socks. Actions have consequences. And “telling a lie to advance the narrative” just doesn’t cut it when other peoples lives and reputations are on the line.
What I find ironic and humorous, is that “Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism found sweeping editorial failures on the part of Rolling Stone.” Now if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle black. I love it when the left eat their own. I would have been NOT surprised if Columbia had supported RS.
Rich college boys, gang rape. All lies.
Rinse and repeat.
Duke lacrosse again.
sigh. There should be consequences for the liar.
why isn’t the false victim liable for slander?
disclosure – i am not a lawyer but I saw an actor portray one on tv last night so I know what I am talking about.
@Bill – I guess because no one has sued her for slander yet. The UVA dean is only suing Rolling Stone and the author. I think Jackie should be sued as well.
