Daily Caller: Vice President J.D. Vance held a ceremony at the White House on Friday to celebrate his mother’s ten years of sobriety, the White House announced on Monday.

Vance’s mother, Beverley Aikins, celebrated her milestone in the Roosevelt Room alongside about two dozen family members. The vice president first proposed holding this celebration during his speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention, where he accepted the vice presidential nomination.
“I’m proud to say that tonight my mom is here, 10 years clean and sober. I love you, Mom. And, you know, Mom, I was thinking. It’ll be 10 years officially in January of 2025, and if President Trump’s okay with it, let’s have the celebration in the White House,” Vance said during the speech in July. more
JD is the very embodiment of virtuous traits that hold great sway with me; perseverance, forgiveness, the importance of family, loyalty, an unswerving, indomitable work ethic, and a steely-eyed resolve to pursue excellence.
A self-made man who was determined to better himself, he never let circumstances or a victimhood mentality deter him. And because he loves his mom in spite of her failings, he is the sort who demands emulation.
Congratulations, Mom! Way to go! See ya in another ten.
Another example of how people (JD, in this instance) on the right tend toward finding solutions to their problems rather than waste time and energy finding external circumstances to blame — and then wait in their self-pity for someone to make them whole.
Recently King county (Seattle) has been running very compelling ads from a local gov’t-associated group, showcasing former addicts who have beat their substance addictions and who have regained their self-respect, dignity, and the things that make life worth living for them. What makes them compelling is, unlike similar past PSAs begging for money out of sense of guilty privilege, the messages appeal to the idea of resilience of the human spirit and of the honest, hard work that is required by those who seek a real change in their lives.
Is something changing? We can only hope.
…it’s too bad biden couldn’t celebrate his own son’s sobriety. It was never a priority for him or his family. They all spent more time and money whitewashing hunter’s addictions.
I’z been sober 4 years…
