I suspect he’s going for the “compromise candidate” if/when neither Trump nor Cruz still can’t get a majority after the second ballot. With the spilt in the GOP this wide it’s not a bad bet for someone who would normally never get a second look or even end up on the nomination ballot. Depending on how loyal his few delegates are he could even act as kingmaker. That’s a scary thought.
Kasich is not deliushinal. This is calculated. Who gains by him staying in the race? Cruz. Who loses? Trump. That’s all you need to know.
He’s in for the GOPe. By Ohio law, if he drops out, the 2nd place winner (Trump) gets the 66 delegates.
Kasich would get knee capped if he dropped out.
So what would be the reason why John Kasich should end his bid for the nomination? That he can not mathematically make the delegate count by the convention? After a few more states, Ted Cruz will be mathematically eliminated too. So Cruz should drop out too.
