Journalist Makes Specious Claim About Homelessness and the Use of Meth

Wow. Talk about fakish news.

Molly Harbarger, a “journalist” for OregonLive, pulls a dubious factoid out of her fart locker and provides an excuse as to why the homeless in Portland are dying of meth overdoses.

It’s because their stuff gets stolen. They take meth so they can stay awake all night and guard their possessions… if they haven’t sold them in order to get more meth.

OL– Methamphetamine made up the bulk of those at 58 percent, followed by non-prescription opioids, like heroin. Only two people died from prescription opioids and one from fentanyl, a highly powerful and addictive synthetic opioid.

People who sleep on the street often wake to find their belongings stolen. Many turn to meth as a way to stay awake all night to avoid theft or violence.

It seems journalism classes have taught these disinformation agents to start with a particular point of view and then work backwards and just throw in whatever is necessary to create the emotion that will best serve their interests. In this case is was to get Oregon to build more homeless shelters.

I’m just surprised she didn’t write that it’s conservatives stealing their possessions in the dead of night.

  11. When I used to use meth, I had to stay up all night and peep through the metal blinds, so that I could make sure that the tree people wouldn’t steal the rims off the neighbors cat. I also spent a lot of time painting the carpets, filing my teeth, and doing other important jobs along those lines.

  17. I’m a native Oregonian, and that shitstain is an example of one of the most egregious examples of what Kalifornia has done to this once great state. Merkley and Wyden are further examples of socialist subterfuge.
    Kate Brown is an excellent example of the mentally ill running this state government. Trust me, I work for them. They weren’t like this when I started. Retirement is soon, but not soon enough, if the Corrupt communist stays in office.

    Yeah sure. The root cause of meth use by Portland homeless is driven by an effort to prevent their stuff from being stolen. That right there is Harfing at a high level of the art. Molly Harbarger has earned and deserves a Harfing trophy.
