A court ruling has paved the way for President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against CBS and its parent company, Paramount Global, to move forward.
U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk dismissed CBS and Paramount’s motion to throw out the case as “moot,” following significant updates to the original complaint. The updates include adding Paramount Global as a co-defendant, introducing Representative Ronny Jackson (R-TX) as a co-plaintiff, and boosting the damages sought to a staggering $20 billion.
The court cited precedent stating that an amended complaint supersedes the original complaint, rendering prior motions to dismiss ineffective. The amended complaint introduces additional parties and expands the factual and legal claims.
The lawsuit stems from the controversial “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris that aired in October. Trump’s legal team accuses CBS of “news distortion,” alleging the network edited Harris’s responses to unfairly tilt public perception in her favor during the 2024 Presidential Election. more
