Kamala Harris: If Congress Doesn’t Take Action on Gun Control, I Will Take Executive Action as President

WFB: Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) said on Monday night that as president she would give Congress 100 days to take action on gun control before she would take executive action.

“Upon being elected I will give the United States Congress 100 days to get their act together and have the courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws. And if they fail to do it, then I will take executive action,” Harris told a CNN town hall in New Hampshire. “And specifically what I will do is put in place a requirement that for anyone who sells more than five guns a year, they are required to do background checks when they sell those guns. I will require that for any gun dealer that breaks the law the ATF take their license.”

Ben Bernier, a University of New Hampshire student, told Harris that he was nervous about becoming a target of a mass shooting as he studies to become an educator.

“I am really bothered that public schools are being targets for mass shootings. Two days ago was the 20th anniversary of the Columbine massacre, but two decades later no major gun control legislation has been passed,” Bernier said. “As president how will you go about keeping our schools safe and keeping guns out of the hands of those who should not have them?”  more here

  1. Uh, don’t they have to do background checks now?

And just on principle, where does the Constitution allow the President to violate the Constitution just because he/she wants to? Isn’t that why we have a Constitution to begin with?

  2. ‘Smatter? All the other social justice platform planks taken?
You could run on turning over white owned farms to descendants of slaves.
That one is not taken, at least in this country

  3. I always find it entertaining when a president makes the ‘if Congress doesn’t take action, I will’ stance. The truth is that Congress isn’t supposed to take action unless it has a clear consensus for change. That just means that it finds the status quo acceptable – or at least is incapable of coming to consensus on how it should be changed.
But that does not mean the president can or should do anything beyond the powers granted to him – in fact the primary point is that Congress is forbidding him to do so, albeit by inaction.

  4. geoff the aardvark, I hesitate to even think “______ will never be president” after 2016. It was fun when WE won. I don’t want to live through the horror of getting our comeuppance if the left wins.

Besides, I don’t know what is going to happen with the massive voter fraud being planned by the left. 2018 was grade-school compared to what they have planned for 2020. And voter fraud (prove me wrong) is what flipped the House to the left in 2018. As far as I know, nothing is really being done to keep it from happening again, astronomically larger this time.

  5. Given how Kamela got her start in politics, who is she going to have to blow to become president? Is this found in the Good and Plenty clause of the Constitution?

  6. I don’t see how she is even eligible to run for President. She is an anchor baby, and possibly with multiple dual nationalities. Neither of her parents were citizens at the time of her birth. Her father eventually naturalized, but her mother never did. Harris was raised in canada by her mother alone, and not in the US.
It is interesting that this is not mentioned at all, but there are several editorials/opinion pieces, out just today, seeking to abolish the ‘natural born’ requirement to run for president. That is being promoted as being in favor of acceptance of immigration. The real reason is harris’ status, yet, she is not specifically mentioned in any of them. They even argue that it would allow Melania Trump to run. Yeah- I’m sure that is what they’re after.
harris push is going on, subtly, and in the background

  7. If Trump gets a couple more Supreme Court picks, she won’t be able to do it.

But if he doesn’t and she gets elected, there is a good chance she will.

Remember, it’s what the Court decides that counts, not what the Constitution or the laws say. Not the way it should be, but the way it is.

    > she will never become President

That’s what Hillary said about Trump.

    > it could precipitate a second civil war

And I could win Power Ball by always playing my birthday. Yeah. It could happen.

The people that claim to think, and that such putative thinking leads them to know, that they live in a republic… also believe that their vote matters. And because they know that their vote matters, they agree that they know that they agree to abide by the results, of that vote, as determined by the rulers of the putative republic. If the results, as announced by their rulers, are an abomination, no matter how grave, the people that claim to think, have already agreed to support that abomination, by agreeing to accept the outcome of the putative vote, and voting. And since they know it was all their idea, they know it’s all their fault.

Quick Pick version? Anyone who claims to be waiting to see how the election turns out? Isn’t getting off the couch. No matter how the election turns out. (Same as abortion. Same as amnesties. Same as matters. Same as it ever was.)

  9. Clarification. An Executive Order is merely the implementation suggestions and constrained by the law it supports.

    It is NOT new legislation.
    It cannot EXCEED the law.

So Kamala dear, your “proposal” is DOA and you will be too if you go forward with it after your trial for treason.

  10. I heard her comments on the radio.
She reminds me of Shelly Antoinette (Obama). The way she scolds everyone like she’s the principal of a great big kindergarten.
    No thanks.

  11. She just exposed here complete ignorance of the Constitution AND gave a real life example of WHY the Founding Fathers added the 2A. Impressive. It really makes you wonder how far she would not have gone in political life had she not been F’ing Willie Brown.

  12. Funny that throughout History the only people who supported “gun” (weapon or people, more precisely) control were the most heinous tyrants?

    Take a stroll:
    The Thirty of Athens
    The Three Hundred of Athens
    Sparta
    Charlemagne
    Genghis Khan
    Tamerlane
    Lenin
    Stalin
    Hitler
    Mao
    Castro
    Kim Dynasty
    Ortega Bros.
    George III
    Robespierre
    &c.

Maybe this is why the Demonrats have worked for 120 years to mal-educate us?

Free men have not only a right, but an obligation, to defend themselves – slaves don’t.

Could be a message in there, somewhere …

  13. With each passing year, I grow more and more comfortable with the idea of beating a person’s brains out just because they’re a democrat… No other reason required.
