A landlord in Duluth deliberately set his apartment on fire, all while blasting Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” according to recently filed charges.
Travis Carlson, 37, faces one felony charge of first-degree arson in connection to the May 18 incident, court documents show.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched shortly after 4 a.m. to the 2400 block of Fourth Street in Duluth on the report of an upstairs apartment on fire. Apparently, the music wasn’t bad enough to drive out his tenants.
Otherwise, known in those parts, as Midnight Urban Renewal.
At least with a bar, they take the booze and beer out first.
Tenants probably Covid rent free for the past 2 years.
If he doesn’t make an insurance claim, it a crime to burn your own house?

“,is it a crime to burn your own house?”
…it is when you destroy other people’s property, put them at risk, endanger the whole neighborhood if it spreads, and make people risk their lives to put it out, especially since you made its spread and progression unpredictable with the ramdom addition of accellerants and the untypical hazard of a vehicle with a deliberately holed gas tank that I’m guessing he didn’t tell anyone about.
CmnĀ¢Ā¢guy, it would not surprise me in the least if his ātenantsā were long-term squatters, living rent-free under the protective shield of leftist bureaucrats, for covid reason or otherwise. The fact that the journos who reported this story do not wax poetic about the plight of the ātenantsā leads me to believe that you are correct.
He should be able to use the mostly peaceful protest defense.
ditto what thirdtwin and cmnguy said. I want to hear the landlords story. who in their right mind would get in that business especially in a liberal area?
