John Prine. I got a buddy that quotes him constantly. what a hoot.
and leon redbone! My eyes are watering. Whats next? Taj Mahal?
Gawd, sets me right bak to 1970’s apt gettin stoned with my buddy.
maybe i’ll wait until the playlist is done before i comment. naah.
great song!
thank you for the memories on this one…
In Spite of Ourselves is a favorite John Prine song, along with Dear Abbey and Space Monkey.
In these times Tom Waits “What’s He Building” would be timely.
Never heard of Valerie June, just wonderful. Loved the guitar and the voice.
This whole beautiful concept…laid out by Mr. Fur and so eloquently stated in the last post by Cholupa is that these songs don’t play on radio…shame on radio…
Willy what happened to your avatar, I liked it.
I smile and I laugh every time I hear and see the video of John Prine and Iris Dement singing In Spite Of Ourselves. Great song and talk about good rockabilly with the Wanda Jackson song Nervous Breakdown. She could really belt them out. I always liked Leon Redbone, the only thing better might have been to have some Ry Cooder and Leon Russell as well. Over all this is a very good selection.
I moved 400 miles away and got a new e-mail and computer, but the goats are here and I’ll post another….waiting for the right light and my air-fuel mixture to give me “artstiic license”….LOL…
Check out Wanda Jackson and Jack White…
Nice eclectic mix, Willy. Well Done
Loves me some Leon Redbone!
I put him in just for you….
Me too!
I put him in just for you…
I agree with Ry and Leon…only 6 songs though… too many others to list, it would have to be a week long barbecue gathering….
That video got sent to my email list! No doubt it will get sent on and on. DH and I got a hoot out of it!
Great tunes!
Not much for screeching females Willy? Me neither.
Made my wife promise me they would play Please Don’t Bury Me at my wake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEhqzOeJnto
.
That selection was right in the wheelhouse Willie and you hit it out of the park. Great selections…
You don’t hear Leon Redbone every day, been a while.
I have a Prine duet on my list too. Different song.
Your Prine duet….Melba? Emmylou? Dolores?….I can’t wait, and I stayed away from Big Mama because I figured you would probably bring her…
I like Dolores Keane singing It”s A Cheating Situation with John Prine. Heck, I love just listening to her all by herself. Her album Solid Ground is my favorite.
Emmylou, of course. I thought you might pick a Big Mama tune, lol. Didn’t include any of her songs on my list, but I do love that big ol’ gal.
yep…
Big Mama was a late scratch….What did you think of Valerie June?…I think I might need a copy of what you listen to….LOL
I saw her in about 1982….she stole the show from BB….
Valerie June is interesting, and new to me. I will have to listen to some more of her music before I can answer that. She is good.
