Lawmakers to Introduce Legislation to Grant U.S. Resident Status to Charlie Gard

Breitbart: Two Republican members of Congress said they plan to introduce legislation next week that would grant lawful permanent resident status in the United States to critically ill baby Charlie Gard and his parents to allow the child to leave the U.K. and receive experimental treatment in America.

“Despite Charlie’s heartbreaking condition, his parents have refused to give up hope,” said Reps. Brad Wenstrup (OH) and Trent Franks (AZ). “They have advocated for him fiercely. They have raised over £1 million to pay for their son to receive experimental treatment in the United States. They have kept fighting for his life.”

When Congress returns to session next week, the two lawmakers say their bill “will support Charlie’s parents’ right to choose what is best for their son, by making Charlie a lawful permanent resident in the U.S. in order for him to receive treatments that could save his life.”  MORE

  1. Three years ago today one of my nephews died from a genetic phuckup of a father. Basically he outgrew his internal organs and died from a nasty
hear disorder. He was about three when he died.

Sometimes it is better for the good lord to bring back his children instead of a life of suffering.

Thank the good lord my sister in law didn’t marry that POS.

  2. Poor kid is at the center of a worldwide political shitstorm.
One thing that comes out of this is a clear cut real live example of the death panels the Left mocks as a fabrication.

  3. @reboot – while I basically agree with your premise, it is not up to the government or the NHS to decide. It should be up to the parents.

  4. It should send a chill through every american that the left wants to replicate that heartless socialistic garbage hear, and they are making plenty of headway.

  5. Have to disagree. What purpose does this serve? It’s experimental and almost certainly the child will still die, except we got to get some “science” off this little guy! Some nice flowery data points and some folks get happy hearts. We should be going through diplomatic channels to force the U.K. To send him over, not try and make this babe a citizen. Also, this needs to be played out to show the evils of central planning and extreme overreach of government. Folks, why are state reps worried about a foreign civilian when they have more important shit to deal with in their own respective states?
Kind of reminds me of those kids starving in Africa, what about the ones back home that go without?

  6. Random Guy, there are a couple children who have been saved by this treatment the parents want to try. They’ve raised the money and the the British gov’t is basically saying they can’t help their own son. They should have the right to try the treatment. There are no guarantees, but there’s no way the decision should be taken from them by their gov’t.
