PM:
A mother is suing Roblox, claiming the company enabled a predator to sexually exploit her 10-year-old daughter on the popular gaming app.
The lawsuit alleges Roblox knowingly created a “pedophile hellscape” despite promoting the app to parents as safe for children. According to the complaint, the predator posed as another child and groomed the girl, convincing her to send explicit images. He allegedly gave her Robux, the game’s virtual currency, in exchange for the pictures and threatened to revoke the gift if she did not comply. The interactions reportedly began on Roblox before shifting to text messaging.
The suit also argues that Roblox’s in-game currency has made children “obsessed” with obtaining Robux, to the point where some tell strangers they will do “anything for Robux.” more here
Kids should get phones and personal use of computers when they get their drivers license.
People pay a monthly charge to have their children corrupted.
Blows my mind but at the same time I am childless so maybe I see it differently.
Shitty parents always blame someone else for their deficiencies. And I got 10 IOTW bucks that says mom is a feminist who always votes Democrat.
I bet she wants to use the settlement money to pay for Amanda’s puberty blockers and transition surgery.
Rich,
Yep. And she shirked her job as a responsible parent when she supplied the kid with that damn cell phone. If your ten year old needs a phone for communication get them a flip phone. Ten year olds should not be subject to what available on the internet. I’d wait until she was 18.
I’m 70 years old. Quite happy with my $40.00 TCL flip phone.
“Pedophile hellscape”? So, kinda like a DNC convention?
This is a parental problem, for sure. As I have mentioned here before I have a 13yo boy who does not have a phone. He briefly had a “Bark” phone. First, he could not communicate with anyone without my approving the number. Second, I received instant alarms anytime he was online(he had no data, had to use WiFi). Third, any off color or inappropriate words were flagged and I received a realtime alert. I set it up for maximum sensitivity. Example: He once called me a “Meanie” through text and I got a “Bullying” warning.
Ultimately, for my son, even with the limitations, the phone proved to be too much of a distraction.
I am no advocate for kids with phones/electronic devices, but, if you are choosing to give a child a phone, at least get one with solid safeguards. My expectation is never that a money making enterprise has my child’s best interest factored into their business model. It’s my job to protect his wholesomeness and innocence.
(Bark has lousy customer service, but I am not aware of another company that is as restrictive, and it did do what it promised.)
