A List of politicians that OxyContin’s manufacturer has funded

When excluding organizations and only looking at candidates, Democrats received nearly $110,000 more than GOP politicians.

DC:

American Cartel: Here Are The Politicians That Took Opioid Tycoons’ ‘Dirty, Bloody Money.’

OxyContin’s manufacturer and its billionaire owners gave millions of dollars to political candidates — who often held powerful positions — and organizations, but the opioid profiteers’ tentacles of influence reach much farther, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation has found.

The Sackler family and Purdue Pharma, which is widely blamed for playing an essential role in starting the opioid epidemic, have given more than $1.3 million to U.S. candidates and another $1 million to political organizations since OxyContin’s creation, according to Center for Responsive Politics data, but that’s just the surface of how deep the pharmaceutical titans’ influence runs.

“It’s blood money, literally,” Public Citizen’s Health Research Group founder and senior adviser Sidney Wolfe told TheDCNF. “It’s money earned off people’s lives being spent. This is dirty, bloody money.”

It’s difficult to tell exactly how far Purdue’s influence reaches, because the pharmaceutical industry pays front organizations to do most of its lobbying and that often occurs at the state level. The company has also pushed their influence in areas outside of Congress, such as to patient advocacy groups, hospital accreditors, physicians and federal agencies.

“As long as they pay out a nickel for every quarter or dollar they make, they’ll just keep doing it,” Wolfe told TheDCNF.  more here

  1. So imagine a world without narcotics.

    Narcotics, the benefits are huge.
    Teeth pulled?
    Cancer?
    Post op?

Gimme an effin break. If the Sob-Sisters who wrote this report were suffering with severe pain whut? They’d refuse narcotics?

    Anything can be abused.

Have any of you ever been to a pain clinic? Florida law requires patients be treated like drug addicts. State laws require patients to suffer.

    It ain’t right.

  2. So happy Big Pharma hands out prescription dope cheap
as they price the EpiPen out of the hands of the folks that need one.
After they made generic ‘bee sting kits’ off limits.

Hell must be a black hole, or else how is everyone going to fit?!

  3. I am especially pain sensitive. Last year I had to have two visits to a new dentist for a very deep cleaning. After the novicaine wore off I was in incredible pain that OTC stuff couldn’t cut. When I called the dentist’s office they treated me like rabid drug addict, questioning my need for something stronger. And I was really surprised that my husband couldn’t get the prescription for me (another new change I wasn’t aware of). So I had to drive to my dentist’s office (crying), in commute traffic, park, and go 15 rounds (again!) with the dentist himself! I was so bloody mad at the end of it all. Oh, then I spent a half hour (crying) at the pharmacy waiting for them to fill the RX.

Now the health professions are acting like TSA.

  4. Meanwhile, free needles and shit in California. That they don’t have a problem with. I get a pat-down at the pharmacy for insulin syringes an allergy meds, FFS. obama was forcing pills instead of surgery on patients. Meanwhile, people with cancer, like our Kat, or pain sensitivity like our Abigail get the run around.

  6. Just re-filled my Hydrocodon-Acetaminophin today and with my new insurance it went from $17.30 to $42.00 for ninety of them. But then they are giving me my Blood Pressure Meds for free. Anyway you look at it’s bad, I ain’t ready to step up to the OXY, but if you really want to be abused you should see what the diabetes meds for the wife cost on an annual basis. As in many thousands! Don’t even let you get your shorts down before they wad them up your…

One day I’ll give you my rant on how Big Pharma killed my brother and thousands of other Hemophiliacs…

  7. Damn it! You had to start this one? Just told my daughter the nurse about the increase and she informs…

“Get ready, cause most things are going up with many being pulled from the approved list, changes to which ‘Tier’ they’re in and in general everyone getting crapped on.” She’s in a “Special Needs Pediatric” practice and fighting every day with the insurance companies.

  8. Anymouse…. it’s even worse than that. They’re coming for Hospice, wanting to tell us we should reduce or eliminate opioids for our dying patients.

Just keeps getting better all the time, what happens when the bureaucracy gets involved in health care.
